so disappointing.  couldn't throw the fastball to start the inning, fought through that and regained some (definitely not all) control and came about 6 inches from getting out of the inning.

partly bad luck, but you can't be a major league pitcher and just suddenly forget how to throw strikes for 10 pitches.

Man Yordano sure seems to suck balls with runners on base

i know that's the narrative, but it doesn't fit this inning.  he was horrible to start the inning - putting the first two runners on.  then he pitched much better.

The combo of him being a terrible pitcher and him talking crap to everyone in sight is not fun.

Seems like Ventura never gives up a 1 run inning.  It's 2 runs a lot, and several 3-4 run innings sprinkled in.  It's really getting old.

Yep. It's like he came out completely unfocused against the Tigers' worst two hitters, then locked in and almost got out of it.

Also, reminder that this game is still tied if Rios isn't an idiot.

Ventura should still go down to AAA for a few weeks. Put Chris Young back in the rotation.

no.  eiland is a better coach than whoever the aaa guy is, so keep him here.  and young needs the rest.

the problem last inning wasn't attitude or whatever people imagine will be altered by sending him down, it was mechanical.  like _fan said, he lost focus or something, his mechanics got mumped and he couldn't throw the fastball for a strike.  after eiland came out, he got it corrected.

we are making way too many excuses for a guy with an ERA of 5.15

it's not an excuse, it's an explanation.

Now today is becoming a frustrating game. I don't like this part of baseball.

just have to get into their bullpen (and not let them score any more).

I felt good when we were up 3-0. I thought we had it. Losing 6 of 8 (probably) isn't fun guys.

would be two lost series in a row, and a losing road trip.  dunno if true or not, but it feels like that hasn't happened before this year.

but there is a non-zero chance that they come back.  detroit's bullpen really is really bad.
