cheap mediocre starter plus deep bullpen beats expensive big-name pitcher yet again, to drive the poster child team of cheap mediocre starters and deep bullpens to the best record in the american league.  nattering nabobs of stupid trades keep yammering about trading for an expensive big-name pitcher.

royals win, proving that trading anything more than a pizza and small beverage for another starter would be stupid.

Posse stat of the game...

Royals are 5-1 in Young 6 starts on the road. Chris has a beauty 1.73 in those 6 starts

If there is any move we make before the deadline, I'd like it to be for chapman. He'd turn our bullpen into one of if not the best ever. We also have plenty of sufficient starting pitchers to get us through with our pen. I would also be just fine if we don't make any moves at all, what do you all think about this?

I'd kind of like to see the Royals get a better outfielder than Rios.

My top options are Cueto, then Zobrist.

I'd be happy if we got Zobrist for a decent price,  but I think that Cueto would cost more than he is worth.

the problem i have with trading for a starting pitcher is that i don't think it's about making the team better.  i think it's about people who don't understand why the royals are winning trying to make the team better fit their preconception of what a winning team should look like.

like on espn just a bit ago, there was a bit with some talking heads saying they thought cleveland had the best chance of catching the royals.  because they had the best starting pitching.

So dumb.

they're saying young is legit hurt, not an invented injury to make space.  back tightness (never knew tightness was such a serious injury until i started following baseball).

the part about going to the bullpen after is just my prediction, not part of the news.

being a baseball doctor has to be about the easiest job in the world.  all the diagnoses are the exact same things as the symptoms.

back tightness - symptoms: tight back
elbow pain - symptoms: painful elbow
etc.

I buy the argument that winning like we are will be tougher in the postseason. Perhaps Ventura and Duffy will become true studs again, but right now they are not. Cueto gives us that, then throw out those other guys and Volquez plus our pen and it's going to be really tough to beat us in October. JMHO.
