I'm starting to get "bummed out" that Morales is our DH. Billy would've been fine for 1 more year. Also, I thought the plan was to not have a DH that was just a DH so we could put Salvy or Alex or whoever there for a game or 2 to rest legs. Moarales can't play the field at all, just like Billy. I dunno fellas I think this one is gonna end up being a dog.

this offseason really sucked.

Kat Kid really took it hard that the first time the royals tried since Cone left town we made the World Series like 5 seconds later, meanwhile the Tigers have a triple crown winner and an aging Kate Upton's boyfriend, great regular seasons yet piss down their legs every october.

Signed Holland to a 1 year 8 million deal to avoid arbitration,  also have Herrera on a 2 year deal, looks like HDH will be around for another year.

FHHDH

Finnegan
Hoch
Herrera
Davis
Holland

Although I'm not sure if Finnegan will start with the big league club.

I mean, think again about how many good arms will be in that bullpen. Wow. The pitchers on the opening day 25 man roster will probably be:

Ventura
Duff
Guts
Vargy
Volquez

Holland
Davis
Herrera
Finnegan
Hochevar
Frasor
Collins

I mean, will Collins or Frasor ever even get in a game unless we're up or down by more than 4? Wow. This pen is scary. Frasor would be probably the best reliever on the Tigers save maybe Soria and I'm not GE'ing.

I'd rather have 12 roster pitchers and have room for Gore too. Honestly this team would probably be ok with 11 active pitchers in April. The other 13:

Salvy
Kratz

Hosmer
Moose
Infante
Escobar
Morales
Colon

Cain
Gordon
Dyson
Rios
Gore

I thought Finnegan was going to the minors to get more work as a starter? I know he got invited to spring training, maybe I just assumed he was gonna go back down to get more starting work, at least I hope that's what will happen.

Is 8 million for a closer cheap? I know Davis makes more than that, but the initial hope was that he was gonna be a back end starter when we got him. I would still be okay with trading some bull pen pieces during the season if we could get a decent return, I think we'd really be selling high with Holland/Davis, and if KH keeps it up he could always slide into a closer role :dunno:

If we can get any run support at all, we are a lot better holding onto an elite bullpen than we would be trading pieces of it for minor upgrades to the lineup.

I'm fine with Finnegan going to the minors to try and be a starter if that's what we choose. There's not much chance we'd deal BOTH Davis and Holland. 8 million for 1 year for the best closer in MLB isn't bad I guess, but I don't follow that type of stuff as closely other places. He still makes less than Joe Nathan (lol) and Craig Kimbrel I think.

If we did trade Davis AND Holland, I'd vote Hoch to be closer over KH because he has a better K/9 as a reliever. I think KH is most likely to regress this season of the HDH combo.

And I agree with SD. They were historically good last year, the one part of the team that other teams feared. Keep them together.

I wouldn't want to trade both Davis and Holland, one or the other. That's seems to be the area where we have the most assets, so if mid season trades happen, i wouldn't be surprised to see a piece of the bull pen go.

If we hang around in the central, they won't trade away a piece of the pen IMO.

If their have anywhere close to the quality of season they did last year no way does Davis or Holland get moved if the teams in contention. Possibly Herrera or Hoch if Hoch round into '13 form again, but probably only for  a significant overpay (like elite closer return).

I hope they at least try Finnegan as a starter. We already have a good idea of what he can do in relief so I think he needs to at least get a look as a starter in the upper minors or MLB, if he struggles though I wont be upset about pulling the plug quickly and turning him back into a reliever.

can everyone please pump the brakes on Finnegan? he's pitched 13 innings total in his MLB life. he gave up 7 runs in 6 postseason innings.

Kris Medlen could be the Roys 2nd best pitcher.

Also of note, the offense could potentially be worse than last year.

I think he showed good stuff in the WC game for being a rookie in a tough situation.  Outside of that it wasn't pretty.

I said this samething a few months back and cartier did not like it. However, we shall see what he can do with a full season underneath his belt, with this team.

I like him a lot and think he will be good down the road.  I wouldn't want to 100% count on him for a significant role with this year's team though.

yeah we all want him to be awesome, and we all remember the roar and the fist pump and the big innings vs oakland. i just think anybody lumping him in with HDH or considering him as a starter in 2015 is getting ahead of him/herself
