I really hope Zimmer is as good as they say. We don't have a 5th pitcher right now and I don't think they're getting one.

Zimmer had shoulder surgery again in late October. It's uncertain what his status will be for spring training, but he'll likely start out slowly in the minors, then hope for the bigs at midseason. If he pitches to his potential, he'll be a stud.

The Royals would be closer to another World Series if they just traded all their best players for cash and started over like the Marlins used to do. This is ridiculous.

1 yr $11 Million for Alex Rios.  He's the outfielder we've all been waiting for.

33 years old, .700 OPS last year

This is a lot more tolerable than Morales and Infante, for me

This thread is rough ridin' awful in the offseason. Also, our acquisitions make me sick to my stomach.

Concerning Rios:  Food for thought. Hope this works out, but not holding my breath.

I think I would be more optimistic if they had gone all in on their strengths and relied on pitching, defense and a shutdown bullpen while hoping for the young guys to have better offensive seasons. These two moves feel lazy and unimaginative to me, and I don't think they make us better.

Unfortunately, you may be right. We're essentially betting that Morales and Rios, players with declining important performance levels, will rebound. Iffy bets at best.

That said, I suspect the Royals may make a deal involving Infante, who they've admitted they'll shop (and possibly others) to get a starter. Who that will be is anybody's guess. They'll never pony up the cash for Sherzer, or even BGJ.

Anybody ever think  that the relative inactivity this year is due to an eye to be able to resign tne core guys, Gordon, Cain, Escobar, Salvy, Hosmer, bthat will be due big raises the next couple of years? Being able to keep those guys is more important than any overpriced 2nd tier FA this year.

You're not wrong, but there are still some glaring holes in the roster.

why are we signing a bunch of old guys? remember when we started to get kinda good that one year and the front office freaked out and we signed like julio franco and benito santiago and juan samuel and juan franco and then we sucked? pepperidge farms remembers.
