I feel bad about losing the WS but not as bad as when we lost to Butler in the NCAA, Baylor a couple years ago, A&M '98, probably some others. I just can't get as emotionally invested in professional sports. Growing up a Royals fan and going to games as a kid a lot makes this really the only professional sport I get invested in at all.

The thing though was in each of those situations, it wasn't the final game....this was the world freaking series....this was it.  It hurts way worse than those to me.

The title of the Star today says something like the Royals need to take the next step in 2015...that's a pretty tall order Star.

I'm not comparing those events in world wide importance or finality to this event. I'm comparing it in how bad it hurts to me personally. Like, the super bowl is probably a bigger deal in the USA and I guess I vaguely follow the Chiefs but I'd rather KSU beats some garbage team by one additional touchdown than the Chiefs win the super bowl.

I think it was how we lost it that made it so bad for me.  If we had lost to Baltimore in the ALCS I would have been like "meh" great season, ended the playoff drought, get 'em next year, etc.  But to have game 7 of the World Series at home, down 1 in the bottom of the 9th, with the tying run 90 ft away, and then lose...I think that's why I lost it so bad.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's wrong or anything for this to be the worst for someone. It just wasn't to me (it was high on the list still)

Its high on the list of disappointing losses for me, but IMO because baseball has multiple series and the Royals had so many great moments on the way, the impact of the loss is actually less. I'm completely understand people still hurting though. (Sorry Cf3 and others)

I'm still pretty bummed about the Game 7, but feeling much better today. I'll blog my thoughts on the postseason run at some point. It was very meaningful to me, not just as a fan, but because of connections I have with family, friends, loved ones, and the city. I know many of you experienced the same thing. So the end sucked, but the ride was wonderful.

I think my favorite moment of the world seires was this: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/63106348/v36872461/ws2014-gm6-ventura-makes-headsup-play-to-get-pence/?query=ventura Up 9-0, and Yordano just is a complete badass.

Today though, I'm excited to head to Manhattan for the first time since Fatty Fest. Feels Good.

This will be the most interesting off-season in Royals' history. So many key players are eligible for arbitration. The KCR will not pick up Billy's $12.5 million option--but will they bring him back for less $, which Billy clearly indicates he's willing to do? Will they pick up Luke? Too many uncertainties there with Luke's TMJ surgery, so I don't think they will. And so many players are arb-eligible, who will cost the Royals' a lot of money to keep.
catcher.

everyone says they're going to cut ties with hoch, but i don't get the rationale.  don't pitchers pretty much always come back just fine from tommy john surgery?  seems like it anyways.  and presumably his contract would be less than what they paid him this year.  seems like he'd be a reasonable gamble to improve the pen.

i think they need more than just a big bat.  they need to do something with the dh (could be just resign butler, which i'd support if it was the right price/length).  probably/possibly the outfield, too, depending on what they do with the dh.  a top line starting pitcher and probably a back of the order starter too.

hopefully they have young pitchers to fill out the bullpen, but if not they need to pick up help there too.

gordon.

try to sign him longer-term, knowing he's only getting slower and older?  trade him?  let the contract play out and take the draft pick if he doesn't follow through on exercising his option?

if you sign him longer-term, i think you have to be thinking that he can move to third base or maybe right field in the later years of the contract when he's slow.

If we do we should trade one of HDH. I'm fine with that.

I'm not real thrilled about a long term contract. I'd say finish the contract and let him go. I love him, but he could age like Josh Hamilton. I'd rather use money on pitchers.

How can we get Colon to play more often?  Could he play 2nd?

I'm hoping this playoff run has encouraged Glass/Moore to spend a bit to get over the hill.  We need more power out of DH and RF and even if Butler is a bargain, we need to improve.  As far as SP, we lose Shields and potentially Duffy?

http://www.royalsreview.com/2014/7/24/5932485/the-case-of-billy-butlers-missing-plate-discipline

btw, i saw this on butler a while back.  basically it argues that his decline is almost entirely due to swinging at more bad pitches, especially low ones.  the link below argues something similar.  if you resign him and can get him to stop doing that (presumably, they've been trying to do so, without success), then you could get a bargain.

moose could suck again, esky could get hurt or maybe just take the occasional day off, infante could not recover from surgery well.

none of those sounds great, so it'd probably be better if he not play more often.  i'm excited about him as the season-long utility infielder though.

The Royals made a qualifying offer to James Shields. It is for one-year, $15.3 million. He has until Monday to accept or decline.

Draft pick compensation here we come!

I'd be happy if he accepted a 1 year deal. 2015 Shields is not what I'm worried about. 2018 Shields will be on DL 24/7/365
