The one out was the ball Blanco caught last night

The AB's by Escobar and Aoki upset me and my family.

Duffy's post game comments confirm (again) that he's broke

Broke Duffy is obviously superior to whatever Shields has.   Shoot him up and run him out there.

My guess is we will give big contracts to major guys like Hosmer, Cain, and Gordon to keep them around for a few more years.  But we are going to lose Butler (unless he begs to stay on for little money), Aoki, Holland (probably), and Shields.  If rumors are true that Glass might be open to spending $115m next year due to the extra cash from the playoffs, I think we can bring in a good Outfielder (Melky or Hunter) and one or two solid starting pitchers.  I doubt the Royals will spend for one big-name pitcher like Scherzer or Lester.     :th_twocents:

If we don't get James, we at least need somebody comparable. So unless Glass is willing to overspend for somebody better, he had better overspend on James.

overspending on James would be a big mistake.

Not doing everything possible to get back to the postseason next year would be a big mistake.
Shields is not the answer to get back to the postseason.

His command was a bit off last night. I think I saw a little bit of the concerns that Ned has had and what @sys, @thebigtrain, and I have covered.

No, but there's a lot out there on the free agent market. We'll have extra $ to spend than usual with what we've made in the off season. Shields is falling off just as bad as verlander right now. We have a lot of great young arms to work with next year, including Zimmer. For the first time in a long time, we have options. :)

Gordon has to stop sucking because we're going to have to knock in runs against them.  I feel like they're going to score at least a few runs every game. Yordano is easily our best pitcher (has been all year) but sometimes teams get to him.  I read some stat earlier in the year that teams hit a really high percentage of his fastballs when they drop to the mid 90s so he needs to bring the cheese tonight.

I'm all for getting somebody better, if Glass is willing to pay for it. We are going to have to spend a whole lot more to get somebody like Scherzer, though. I just don't want to let Shields go and then just find a mediocre arm at a "good value".

Remember how the Royals just barely made the 2014 playoffs by the absolute skin of their teeth?  Maybe getting rid of our #1 pitcher might be a bad idea as far as trying to repeat something that was accomplished by the thinnest of margins.  :dunno:

Petro was just talking about how he's "heard" that Duffy may have some sort of ding/strain in his groin or core. Also, when asked about his injury last week Ned specifically said "Yes, Duffy's shoulder and arm are 100% healthy". That would make some sense; he is pitching so they probably aren't concerned about his arm, but they don't trust him to start or pitch more than 3-4 innings. :dunno:

This is what I'm thinking. Sometimes you have to be careful of what you wish for.

It's not getting rid of when his contract is already up. Signing up to a 4+ year contract would be dumb, when  we see him deteriorating right before our eyes. We have a nice start to next season with Ventura, duffy, and some what with Guts and Vargas. If we hand out a big contract to another pitcher, I want him to be younger.

hot dog guy > fountain lady
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

We'd be paying shields for his past, not what he will be. His will continue to regress, and we can make the playoffs again without him, by being smarter with our money. There are other options. Paying for the past is stupid.

If Shields wins Game 5 and we win the WS then GMDM should hand BGJS a signed blank check.

Duffy coming back and being a good player moving forward is no guarantee, either. This team needs pitching. We need to pick up least one pitcher who can consistently get us to the 7th inning with an ERA in the low 3s. If we can find somebody other than James to do that, fine. I think Shields gives us that if we give him a new deal, though.

The Cardinals let the Angels pay Pujols for the past. The A's let teams pay their aging players all the time. You're about to see the Tigers fall off a cliff in 2015 IMO. Let's learn from winning franchises, not be stupid.
