That is fantastic.  :)

So, when the Royals thing, will it be the pinnacle for you as a sports fan? Surpass 03/12 football titles, sweet 16, or titletown year?

I mean, I've never posted on a Royals BBS (and probably never will), but this (winning the whole damn thing) is going to be hard to top.

Given what I've experienced as a fan, I can pretty easily imagine not ever winning a national championship in any sport during my lifetime (although I was just born for the '85, it doesn't count).  This will be better than conference championships that we sometimes win 3 a year.  It won't even be particularly close.

I was sitting under an awning at the K waiting for the pouring rain to slow down. I had just watched the Royals choke away the game in front of a full house on ESPN. I was pretty upset.

that elite 8 year was worth about 5 world series to me. the football conference championships are each worth about 2 world series to me.

Perhaps it's a recency bias, but I think World Series would definitely go No. 1

This (though I was born in '83, still doesn't count tho). Conf champs are great. SKC winning last year was fun, but I wouldn't call myself a huge fan as I was just starting to get into soccer at the time. In my memorable sports lifetime, no team I've been a huge fan of has won a pinnicle title. No HS state titles, no college Nattys, no World Series, no Super Bowl, no Stanley Cup. In fact this is the first time one of "my teams" has even had a chance to play for one. This is a magical moment for me and I don't want it to end.

This will forever be the pinnacle for me if we win, and it won't be close unless we win football or basketball nattys.

If we would have won in 2012 that would have taken it because I went to so many games, and was a student, but not anymore

The only thing that could top a Royals' World Title would be Cat basketball or football NC for me. Just the Royals being in the WS may top any K-State sporting experience I've had. Its pretty close anyway.

the baseball winning is super fun because of how many games you get to play in the playoffs. football is so brief. i mean i guess the whole football season is like the playoffs, but it's really not. we have had eight (EIGHT!) playoff games, and there are between 4 and 7 more to come, i mean that is 8 times so far that i have lost my crap and partied my face off. if you win the NCAA tournament, that is only 6 wins (also we've never done that) so in that sense, baseball takes the cake for me.

Cat basketball/football NC would definitely be tops.  'Cat F4 or fball playoff appearance could potentially do it.  Hard to say if a Chief's SB would.  It would be hard to stay so excited for 2 straight weeks leading up to it.

Regardless, there is more to this than just ranking favorite sports.  The Royals of all teams and the way that they've done it makes it all the more incredible.

This is an extremely good point. mocat's as well, playoff baseball isn't an event and its much more an experience than any other sport.

Normally, I would never equate a professional team championship to a college team championship, but the Royals just feel like a college team.

If you could take our games in 2000 v NU (last minute heroics) and 2003 v OU (huge underdog), mix them together and strech it out over two weeks, that's what this feels like. But I'd still trade it for a K-State football NT. An occasional March Madness run or even title isn't even in the conversation - that's a lot easier to accomplish, relatively speaking.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

the elite 8 run is the closest thing to this. that team played to their seed tho. the royals were the equivalent of being the 9 seed forced to play the play-in game before facing the 1 seed in the first round. also they were down by 16 with 4 minutes left in the play-in game. so this royals run is the best. but i understand if some of you hillbillies who are not from KC do not understand. i've spent 22 years in KC, only 5 at k-state.
