Why would it matter? In the words of the great Herm Edwards, "you play to win the game." Dick Duffy has been our most effective starter, so yeah he should get a start.

well, down 0-2 and a day rest you throw shields game 3 for sure and with ned he would probably go shield/duffy(or ventura)if big game gets into trouble game three. just saying it all depends on what happens in baltimore first

Paul Konerko, retired stud player for 2nd best AL Central team, loves the Royals

Quote
Konerko made the connection at none other than his speech to White Sox fans during Paul Konerko Day, one day before the club's season ended. Konerko took a moment early in his speech to congratulate the Royals for earning a postseason spot.

"Good luck to you guys," Konerko said, microphone in hand while turning toward the Royals dugout. "Represent the (American League) Central. You guys remind me of a team I played for once. You guys can go do it. Represent."

Now the Royals sit eight victories from their wildest dream, while Konerko is closer to saying, "I told you so," if he ever did things like that.

Asked about recognizing the Royals in his speech, Konerko stood by what he said. He wasn't giving praise, just because the Royals were in the room.

"What I told them was true," Konerko said. "That team right there looks a lot like the team that won the World Series here as far as how they're built. Good luck to them. I hope they do it. I hope they get the same feeling I had. It was great."

I mean, you can't possibly be serious about starting Shields on Monday after he lost on Friday, right?

if we are up 2-0 or down 2-0, it doesn't make a difference. you start Vargas or Duffy for Game 3, and the other guy for Game 4. Seems simple to me. You have Guthrie and Finnegan for long relief, as well as Frasor for early innings work. Tim Collins scares the absolute crap out of me, and I can't believe we got away with using him in a tie game on Thursday in Anaheim.

Well yeah, you certainly aren't pitching Shields on two days rest or Ventura on one... I can see trying to throw Shields in game 4 if he is effective and throws <100 pitches in game 1.

Yes, that makes sense.

My selfish hope is this; Royals split in Baltimore, come home and win games 3/4 with Duffy/Guthrie, BGJ pitches game 5 when I have tickets and Royals clinch the WS birth. :D

I'd also accept 2-0 in Baltimore and split 3/4 at home.
