Is our plan in the future to make him a starter?

As long as Yost is feeling frisky, this would be my dream lineup:

DH Willingham
CF Cain
LF Gordon
C Perez
1B Hosmer
2B Infante
3B Moose
SS Escobar
RF Aoki

Having a bunch of speed is a stupid prerequisite for being a leadoff man.

So is hitting 1 run lead off HR's, guys with power should not be lead-offs

The extra million times he would get on base would probably be worth more than the 1 or 2 home runs he would hit in the first AB of the game.

million more times huh. it would be a complete waste of a potential RBI producer having him be a leadoff, which is why batting Alex leadoff like they did the last couple years is also stupid

Best leadoff guy is Alex, bummer is he's also the best for the 2-9 spots so its a real pickle

Josh Willingham's run producing days are behind him. He is much more useful as a potential run, than he is as a potential run producer.

I don't really want to argue about this all night, so I'll leave this here. Not much has research has been done on the subject, because it hasn't been tried out much over the years. The little data that is available suggests it's more likely to work than not.
