The Royals put Omar on the DL today and recalled Ciriaco, so Moose got a reprieve. Because Omar's mov was retroactive, he can come off the list on May 22. If Moose doesn't show some progress by then, I'd say ship him to Omaha. Ned still wants another reliever, so they could send Ciriaco back at the same time and call up a reliever.

That said, I don't think Valencia is the every day answer at third. Maybe shop around for a serviceable third baseman?

There are literally no serviceable third baseman on the market.  As far as he royals acquiring via trade: Pretty much everyone is old, crappy and expensive or young, crappy and unattainable.

Interesting if true, but doubt it happens.

Remember when we moved Gordon from 3b to lf to make room for Moose? I wonder if there are any serviceable of available?

i don't see any value to sending moose to 3a.  what exactly is that supposed to accomplish, just to show moose that they don't like him not hitting well?  i think he prolly knows that.

they've got gio and valencia here now, plus the other guy, so it isn't needed to free roster space for another infielder, which would be the only possible value i can see.

i would platoon him and valencia though.  i guess i thought that was supposed to be the plan from when valencia was acquired.

you could also say there's no value in keeping a <.150 hitter on your major league roster

A Moose decision needs to be made soon. He seems like a good guy but, sadly, I lean toward letting the Moose loose. Time to move forward.

You send him down because he's still a youngish 3B that can hit for power and plays average/above average defense. Send him down, see if he can get some confidence (which sometimes seems like it may be his biggest problem) and maybe turn things around.

Do I expect it? No, but if it works he's better than anything the Royals can get in a trade.

i don't know that he lacks confidence, but if he does, it isn't because he hasn't hit 3a pitching.  he's hit the crap out of 3a, hit the crap out of spring training and hit the crap out of off-season foreign leagues.  if none of that gave him confidence over the last few years, why is it supposed to over the next month or two?

This is the reason you send him down. There's basically no hope left for him as a major leaguer, time to have guys on the roster who can help you win, Moose is not one of those players.

Like I said I don't expect it. This was more in response to bones saying cut him. As long as he has options you have to at least try. There's no one in AAA and no one available through FA or trades right not that can be counted on to help the team anymore than Moose.

Send him down, roll with Gio and Valencia at 3B when Infante gets back. If he starts raking in AAA for a couple months bring him back and see if he can carry it over to the majors, if not see if you can flip him for another flamed out top prospect (preferably a pitcher) in the offseason.

AAA pitching, spring pitching (with all the minor leaguers, invitees and free agents they're throwing, and the fact that MLB starters don't start throwing even 4-5 innings until shortly before the teams break camp) and the winter leagues don't generally feature even average MLB pitching. I want Moose to hit, but I'm growing increasingly pessimistic. Haven't waved his white flag yet, but I'm close.

i think the best chance he has to get better at hitting mlb pitching is to face mlb pitching.  coupled with the fact that they don't have better options, i'd let him face right-handers for at least the rest of the season (or until the trade deadline, if they somehow find a better option they don't have to overpay for)

Valencia hit like . 379 against lefties last year.   Just platoon those dudes for the rest of the season.   We have pretty much no 3B in the minors to bring up and anyone we could trade for would likely be no better than Valencia anyway.   I think Moose facing only righties in the majors can both give him confidence and let him face big league pitchers.

I hope this is true. That's what Ned is doing now--platooning Moose and Danny, with the hope that Moose gains confidence and his stroke, especially against inside fastballs. But if Moose fails in the platoon context...it's time to do something else with him.
