Jack described the Royals latest addition as their new set-up man, but I'm seeing others call him the new closer. I think closer makes more sense but either way I'm excited for the bullpen upgrade. They could also do closer by committee, I guess.

Let's just hope he keeps that chronic back injury at bay.

62 games left.  i don't think .500 over that stretch will do it, but maybe not much more.  33-29 maybe good enough?

it's weird looking at the standings and finding out that cleveland has been on a stealth slide and is now just five up.

Yup, fantastic start, and Minnesota, Cleveland, Red Sox, and Yankees have one or multiple losses. Huge swing into relevancy

I think they need to win 35 games/be in the 90s of wins.

wacha has been solid too.  just rough ridin' nailed the free agent pitching market over the off season.  at least for starters.

pace check after the first (11) 9-game pods

2014:
49-50 (.495)
even run diff
6-5 pod record

2015:
61-38 (.616)
+76 run diff
9-2 pod record

2024:
54-45 (.545)
+71 run diff
7-4 pod record

Yeah, and crazy how this team fits like almost in between the two of them, close to the 2014 on the pods but closer to 2015 on the runs diff. But I don't think 2014 had as many god awful teams for the Royals to play against in 2014 vs 2024. White Sox are historically bad.

Starting with game #99, the 2014 royals went on a ridic 24-6 run. 48-50 to 72-56 in 1 month
