Very early morning (overnight) rumblings:  The Nationals have made a late offer for Davis which may snag a Wade-to-Cubs deal. But the latest is that the deal making Wade a Cub is contingent only on the teams' respective review of physicals.

Soler being the other piece in a Cub deal is consistent with the increasing chatter that Dyson is definitely on the trade block. And other teams are increasingly interested in Lorenzo...and the Royals are listening.  :frown:

Looks like Herrera is about to become the closer with Soria becoming the set-up guy. Hope Jack gets his head right.

I dunno, either Cain or Dyson will be traded, leaving Dyson on the heavy side of a platoon in CF or hopefully getting something decent back

I was really hoping we'd throw some of that new TV contract $ towards Hosmer. I want us to break the bank on this deal.

Why would you want to break the bank on a below average to average 1st baseman?
I have hometown sentiment. Plus his dash home in the series. I'm a weirdo.

Not when your new TV contract is right around the corner it isn't.

not surprised but your logic might be backwards here.  rebuilding with another core group of almost-ready prospects ahead of that positions the club to have the financial flexibility to find sign or acquire veterans to complete a contending squad in another year or two.  just waiting around for all of our favorite players to walk away isn't the way to go.  the TV deal isn't guaranteed to be a blockbuster - the bubble might burst before we get our chance to sign a significant deal (it will certainly be better than what we have now).

If the news that's breaking now (per rosenthal, not clubs) is true...Soler for Wade, I'm not sure I love the deal.  If we also get Happ or another prospect I'm on board.  Getting a 14 mo younger Will Myers back for just one of the pieces his original trade returned (esp just 1 year remaining) seems like the culmination of a good strategy by Moore.

I quoted Kacie's tweet. I don't know if you know how twitter works, but that doesn't @ the 2nd party involved in mentions. Keep pounding tho. Hope all is well btw.

My Thoughts: I'm happy to have Soler on our team, we've been trying to find a RF since Dye left. Hope he figures it out and reaches that potential. However, it seems DM pigeonholed himself to get something back that could benefit 2017. We likely passed on players with higher upside, but a year or two more away.

The Soler to Wil Myers comparison is a bit of a stretch. However, we need a young OF who can come in and play everyday. This guy has upside, and Wade's best days were in 2014. Its the right move. Now we look to sign Duffy. Cain/Moose/Hosmer you go into the season with and if we're 12 or 13 games back in May, you start shopping them for prospects.

Other than steal numbers, how is it a stretch at this point?  (not arguing, just BBSing)

Myers has way more power upside, IMO. Yes their numbers thus far are similar but Myers should be a 40 HR guy at some point. I don't see that with Soler. I could be wrong though

Soler can actually play OF, whereas myers is a disater out there. I like Soler better at the plate as well and for power. Myers is never going to hit 40 dongs (or 30), and there's good reason he's been dealt multiple times in his career.

This is a great deal for 1 year of wade.

Wil Myers hit 28 last year in San Diego, one of the worst HR parks in baseball.

Soler has 4 years of control. Wade had 1, injury trouble, and effectiveness had trended down (though still great). I like this risk. If Soler is great in a full time role, we can contend. If not, he should help soften the fall in 2018-2020

Does everyone recognize just how bad Soler's numbers have been? It's pretty gross.
