I am not a very good fan, and even worse on twitter. I'm willing to be a bad fan if they keep winning and making me look like a fool.
Same.

I think I remember a similar quote from james shields last year

He's just being honest. I can't imagine it not being distracting. Hopefully it doesn't matter tomorrow.

Just live in the moment and enjoy playing in a big, winner-take-all playoff game.

Nothing distracting about that.  Not many guys get to enjoy that sort of situation.

I mean, he may still be distracted, but my hope is that he just enjoys it for what it is.

I get that he's being honest but he's not helping himself by saying it out loud.

I wonder what the stats are on players who get traded before the deadline, but are going to be free agents next year and in line for massive contracts.  Like, do they typically do shitty and maybe it's not a good idea to go after them, or is there usually no drop in production but Cueto is an exception?

its not like he came out and said "hey i'm distracted!" reporters asked, he answered. BFD. Distractions are real.

It's a pretty big deal when you give up three prospects to bring in a guy to be your ace and he sucks balls because he's 'distracted' about his impending $100+ million contract.

are they though?  when you're in a pennant race and trying to win a world series should you be having difficulty focusing on pitching?  Like, are Price or Greinke having difficulty with their impending free agency?

seems like a very weird time to be concerned about it.

I guarantee you anyone with a big contract looming, Price, Greinke, Alex Gordon, etc is thinking about it. It might not mess with their game, but they're thinking about it.

generally the thought is that guys play better in the last year before hitting free agency.

Theory: "distractions" are not affecting his pitching. He's a pro and forgets it all when he's on the mound.

I don't care what he did. I don't care what he said. All I want is 5 innings tomorrow. I'd settle for 3.

Cueto: 3
Young: 2
Duffy: 1
Herrera: 1
Davis: 2

theory:  he stands to make a lot more money if he can successfully blame free agency distractions, lower catcher targets, or the color blue for his recent performances than if people think it's because he's hurt or just not as good as they thought.

I don't think GM's fall for that. Of course there's a lot of dumb in baseball so who knows.

a lot of teams desperate for SP (Royals included in 2016), so someone will convince themselves this was the case and give him $

i'd be happy with 0.1 innings if they get him out without any damage.  between young, medlen and duffy they've got plenty of guys who can absorb innings.  the only thing i'm worried about is giving him too long of an opportunity to put you in a hole.

His job is to pitch at an Ace level.  I'm sure it is on his mind. It shouldn't make him an average pitcher though. If it does, he's not good at his job

i agree.  people in all sorts of other circumstances and without any financial incentives toss out excuses that no one ever believes as well.

I predict that if Cueto is pulled after 3, it's because he's already given 3 up runs.  which is concerning.

Can we talk about his velocity? How has he been so successful averaging 92 mph over the years? I understand all of the movement he has on his pitches and what a struggle that must be for hitters, but he's very average velocity wise.
