— Young baseball players are some of the most underpaid people in American professional sports.

— Old baseball players are some of the most overpaid people in American professional sports.

yeah, baseball salaries are really weird.  it's like, not at all a meritocracy, like you find in most sports.  the most equitable thing about it is that really good players tend to get to the majors faster than less good players.  but late bloomers, like cain, and maybe to a lesser extent orlando, get completely mumped.

You aren't very well schooled in pro sports contracts. It's very common in the NBA and NFL for vets to be wildly overpaid while younger good players make much less than they're worth.

The difference is that those players don't get guaranteed contracts and stop getting paid as soon as they stop producing.

NBA contracts are guaranteed.

nothing like in baseball.  fball contracts aren't guaranteed, so there really aren't any overpaid vets.  nba players are only club controlled for 4 years rather than 6, and the upper level of rookie contracts is more like 20% of the salary of the most highly paid vets; in baseball it's more like 1-2%.

8 joe blantons would only need to pitch 50 innings each.

Those Blantons aren't averaging 6 and a half IP per start with a winning record.

The difference is baseball does not have cap restrictions. Teams will just eat bad contracts if they're in a financial position to just go get a better player. A bad contract in the NBA will cripple a team for a few years (ex.: Knicks, Nets)

they are not mutually exclusive. i prefer to not boo either of them. i will boo dusty coleman if i ever see him again. i will boo the royals in general if it appears dayton/ned/the players are not trying to win. do you think any of the players are not trying to win? do you think cueto is a loser? will it make you feel better if cueto sucks and you boo him? i want the world series son. i want to win.

the actual joe blanton has already pitched almost 70 innings and provided 0.6 war this year.  you'd only need two more blantons to exceed guthrie's total innings and value.  the other blantons could wash out entirely.

Honestly. Aside from Gordon, none of them look like they care that much as of late. The rest have made me happy before. Cueto has only let me down. That's my logic. Also, I'm a huge Gordon fan boy.

one of the things i haven't liked about the way elias does his innings, is how he puts the first batter or two on base and then shuts down the later hitters of the inning.

now this last inning, he's switched things up a little and he's spacing out the hits and outs a little more.  i have to say, i find it more aesthetically pleasing.

walking escobar is a nice touch.  most pitchers wouldn't think to do that, but it brightens up the whole inning.

Weak a** ground ball to SS with bases loaded.  Zoby is starting to piss me off.

Another wasted inning where we get a whooping 1 run.
