Sys, I know there will be times when you won't wanna see Cueto out there in the 7th or 8th. But he has been pretty good in the latter part of his career.
Last 1.5 years, Cueto in 7th Inn or later ---- 64.0 Inn 16 ER (2.25 ERA) 38 Hits 16 BB. Not quite as good this year, after being lights out last season
2012/2013, Cueto in 7th or later --- 33.1 Innings, 8 ER (2.16 ERA) 20 Hits. Was hurt for 2/3 of 2013, so not as many innings pitched late in games.
Wade is still the best option in the 8th, no matter what Cueto has done. But there could be several games where we let him pitch at least the 7th if he is throwing well
just looked him up. all pitchers are much worse in late innings than they are earlier. but cueto seems to hold up pretty well. it's a small sample size (which i assume is because he's pitched in the national league and gets subbed out a lot), but he's got a .706 obs after 100 pitches. most guys, even aces, are much higher. so, that's good, although it is a small sample.
obviously a very good reliever, like herrera or davis is still significantly better than .706, but if you're going to leave a pitcher out too long, it seems like leaving cueto out is likely to hurt you less than is typical.
