What a weird wild wacky game.... But at least it was a weird wild wacky WIN.

Posse Stat of the Day...
We won 2/3 of our games (28-14). Went on a depressing 2-9 slump. Then won 2/3 of our games again (22-11). Overall a very good and successful 1st half

as many of you know, i like to break the long mlb season into two segments, an 86 game first "half" and a 76 game second "half".  well, today the royals won the first segment, with a mark of 52-34, putting them in great shape to win the entire season with another win of the second segment.

checking in on how some of the royal's competitors have done with their segments, the tigers are 44-44, the twins are 49-40 and cleveland is 42-46.  to put those numbers in perspective, if we project that the gordonless royals have a poor second segment, and play .500, going 38-38, that would put them at 90 wins.  here are the records the other central teams would need to tie these hypothetically slumping royals:

detroit  46-28
minnesota  41-32
cleveland  48-26

it's good to remember these numbers when we see stories and rumors about possible trades over the rest of the month.  because the value of any possible trade will be mostly confined to possibly improving the odds of advancing in the playoffs, this team doesn't need to add anything to win the division.

Not only do we lead Minn by 4.5 games, but the Twins have the ALs 2nd best record, so we have at least a 4.5 game lead on everyone

The best "non playoff team" right now is 8.5 games behind us. Our goal is 100% to win the division, but we are in great shape to be a playoff team

Past 2 years, we have been very good in the 2nd half.  41-27 last year and 43-27 in 2013. Let's keep that trend going.

That was probably the hottest game they'll play all year but that doesn't explain Omar dropping an underhanded toss from 10 feet away.

Global warming baked the infield, thus 4 errors.  Time for a study.

We have the best defense in the league so I'm not worried about one bad game when it was 100 degrees

it is unfathomable to me that Washington does not have the best record in baseball. can you imagine 57 out of your 162 games being played against Philadelphia / Miami / Atlanta?

Posse stats and a look back at the 1st half ( Part 1 of 2) .......

1) Royals were much better vs Starting RHP (37-19) than LHP (15-15). However we have a .271 average vs lefties compared to a .276 average vs righties

2) At home, KC is hitting .282 with 32 HRs in 46 games. Home ERA is 3.33

3) On the road, we are hitting .266 with 35 HRs in 40 games. Road ERA in 3.69

4) our bullpen has an MLB best 2.11 ERA and a MLB best 17-5 record

5) Royals have scored 6+ runs 30 times. We have scored 2 or fewer 27 times.
Our opponents only got 6+ 18 times, while scoring 2 or fewer 37 times

*** there are 2 long steaks we have that are very impressive.  We haven't lost a game when we had a lead anytime after the 8th inning. 232 games and counting.

*** The 2nd steak is we haven't lost when we have scored 6+ runs since May 20,2014. 73-0 since that date. Our opponents have lost 11 games when scoring 6+ in the time span

*** there were 15 games in which the game was tied in the 8th or 9th inning, or it went into extra innings.  The Royals won 11 of those 15.  We also had 2 games where we trailed in the 8th, scored 2-3 runs in the 8th and won.

*** our record now stands at 41-5 when we get 4 or more runs.  We also have a very impressive 9-4 record when we only score 3 runs.  So we are 50-9 when we don't score 0-2 runs.
