everyone knows what "bandbox" means, but the question is, what TF is a bandbox, other than a terrible baseball word?

kind of like "vaunted". nobody uses "vaunted" except lazy journalists when they are talking about a team's offense or defense

mocat what are other examples of stuff like this?

in a NL game when a pitcher gets an RBI, they just have to say "...and he helps himself right here!"

that one is stupid. Like, if the left fielder gets an RBI he isn't helping himself too?

I hate it when an announcer says "the payoff pitch"

i hate it when the announcer says "and now quickly the count is 0 and 2"
i mean is there any way to get to 0 and 2 without it being quickly?

I'd bet the odds of us making a blockbuster move are rather slim.

We do have 15 pitchers that will be in consideration of being on this roster in the 2nd half, and 13 is the most we are going to carry.  Now if Blanton has a so so or a poor start on Sat, his value goes down. But if he looks solid, he may just lock up 1 of those spots.

I am counting Medlen but not counting Finn among those 15.  Finn has options and will go down when others are healthy.  I'm not sure if Blanton has any options left ( remember hearing someone on a Sports radio saying they didn't think he did)

If management has no intention of signing Holland next year, they could be shopping him with prospects  for a bigger name.

The 15 pitchers BTW were...
Volqy Ventura Duffy Vargas Guts
Young Blanton Medlen Frasor Hoch
Morales Madson Herrera Wade Holly

i don't think they need more pitching.  i had a post about that a few days ago.  if they had a better pitcher, yost would be be stupid with him and it would end up as no better than using a mediocre pitcher plus relievers for the same number of innings.

they need to upgrade 2nd base or rf.  preferably rf, because i like infante and hate rios.  but either would make sense.

Rosters expand to 40 on Sept 1. We'll have a lot more than 15 pitchers then.

Sept 1 is long ways off.  We have had guys hurt and on DL, so it is not an issue right now.  Medlen will be up after the AS break, just not sure when exactly.     If these guys don't have options, you can't just send them down to the minors.   We would have to trade them or someone else is gonna pick them up.  Odds probably not real good we have 2 guys on DL (13 on the roster) from July 20- Aug 30.

I would be OK if they brought in a good starter, but if they don't, I understand why.  I would assume trading for a RF is more likely than trading for a 2B.

We need to take 3 of 4 from Minn and put a strangle hold on our Div lead.
Det lost again today and are 6.5 back
Tigers just 11-19 last 30 gms, and giving up 5.43 runs in that time

Yeah, winning this division shouldn't be super hard. Need to put people in their place though. Can't have bad series vs Minnie or Detroit.
