Good thing is Detroit lost too.

Bad thing is they lost to the Twins, who (somehow) is coming on like a freight train.

Get the split tomorrow and I'll feel okay.

Don't start worrying about the Twins until they are here in August

yordano is fine

I didn't get to watch tonight. I was pleased to see him go 7 after a rough start.

I really think he and Duffy will probably be decent, we just don't seem to have that steady presence as a #1 like BGJ last year. Perhaps I'm just too concerned about that.

no, its a legit concern. Duffy is much more troubling than Yordano to me. I think Yordano gets it together and has a good season. Duffy looks just lost.

1. Hud
2. Denny/Ryan
3. Phys
4. Goldberg

hey kk, i rough ridin' adore the detroit radio crew.  they're probably the best in baseball.  i love them so much sometimes i forget i'm listening to see if detroit will lose and they twist me around so that i forget and pull for the tigers for a minute or two.

Thank you.  The TV guys are pretty good too.  Better than most.  I think Bostons are the most representative of a city, although the Yankees, Baltimore and Hud when he was on radio in Anaheim are all treats as well.  The Bell Tire overkill is funny too as the advertisements are over the top local and funny to me.

Guys - this SP has really taken the wind out of my sails. I hate that feeling. Like, I know we are in first place and have a good offense, defense and bullpen, but is all of that sustainable? We built ourselves a cushion, and it helps that CLE and CHW have fallen on their face so far, but I'm starting to think we're about to fall back to the pack.

Tell me I'm overreacting.

Thank you

Oh neat. Omar Infante, statistically the worst starting 2B in all of baseball, is batting 6th again today.

Let's talk SP.

Listen, if anything, Yordano fighting through 7 innings, not letting himself get beat up emotionally and losing complete control of himself, should encourage us. Don't know if you guys remember, but that's what Shields starts were like. Occasional dominance, but mostly just durability and innings, allowing the team to stay in the game. I really think Yordano will be fine. He keeps giving up homeruns, and that's killing him. He needs to quit that.

Also, we should be concerned about the amount of walks Volquez gave up the last 2 starts, but across the board on the season, his stats are really similar to last year's.
         ERA   WHIP   BB/9   K/9   K/BB
2014   3.04  1.23     3.3     6.5   1.97
2015   3.19  1.16     3.6     7.0   1.94
He's going to be good, and right now his numbers are tracking to end up similar to 2013 Ervin Santana. We'll all take that.

Guts? Man I don't know. He located his pitches on Saturday, but its not like he ever overpowers hitters. I think its reasonable to expect an ERA in the mid 4.00s, and hope that we get a few miracle games where guys swing early in counts and he goes deep into games. Right now he averages 6 innings a start, which is the most important stat for him. If he gets close to 7 IP per start, at around a 4.5 ERA, I think his role on the team will be a solid one. I don't think that's unreasonable. We'll win plenty of J-Guts games if he does that. (we're 4-2 in J-Guts games thus far FYI). With Vargas out, and Duffy in a free fall, Guts isn't going anywhere, so let's hope he remembers that Lorenzo Freaking Cain plays CF for him and throws strikes.

Young:
Get a good look at his mug:
Last year he threw 165 innings at 3.65 an he looks like this year's DITR. I have a feeling he's not going back to the pen. Great pickup.

Duffy:
:frown: This is bad. Very, very bad.

I think the staff will be good enough to make the playoffs. EVERYONE besides Young will improve their numbers. If we trade for Hamels or Kazmir or anyone, then all of a sudden we have great depth and are poised to be a dangerous playoff team again.

I think Duffy is going to be fine. He's a guy that when he slumps, it's going to be ugly. I'm fine with that. He needs to get his mojo back soon though.

This team needs to go on a win streak.  Just a long streak of wins.  Maybe 6 games or so.  I think that would be just what the doctor ordered.

It would be super great to win today and then sweep the Yankees and Reds. Then, we're on previously alluded to 6 game winning streak and the Cards are in town. Wow. That would be great
