there are 7 starters for 5 spots, so we can afford 2 guys to be hurt and/or suck at one time.

right now:

2 hurt (Vargas, Medlen)
1 sucking (Duffy)
2 not terrible (Ventura, Guthrie)
1 good (Volquez)
1 awesome (Young)

the reason there is a problem right now is because we have a total of 3 hurt/sucking dudes right now, and we can only afford 2.

They've lost the last 5 Wednesday games. What's up with the facepalm, homie?

CF3, your love for Ventura is getting in the way of sound thinking. Did you really just declare a moral victory for last night's outing because he got thru 7 innings?

could have been way worse. i feel okay about our chances to win a game if we give up 5 runs. weve got offense now.

It's baseball. There's a stat for everything. They're 1-5 on Wednesday games. There could be. If posse would have thrown this stat out there, ppl would be praising the gods for his excellence. Maybe these guys are tired mid week.

If your standard for Ventura is 5 runs in 7 innings then you are a loser.

The #1 position in any sport that is almost more mental than physical is pitching. Right now with Ventura and Duffy off their rocker at such a young age, concerns me greatly.

No its an accurate assessment of the game. We won a game pretty much just like this one on Tuesday night.

Yordano showed mental toughness last night to get through 7.

townie, im not happy with yordanos start. im happy with his ability to grind and eat up 7 innings and keep us in the game, something a few starters havent been able to do lately.

its not a loser mentality to say that if we give up 5 runs we still have a chance to win the game.

It's definitely up there, but they only have the pressure of letting themselves down, not a whole team/fan base.

rick daris fast fact of this game. mitch moreland, prince fielder and delino deshields dads all had pretty good mlb careers. that's 33% of the rangers starting lineup who had dads play mlb.

Cecil Fielder hit a batting practice home run that doinked off the head of a young _33 in the left field stands.  Had to go to the Kauffman emergency room.  They got me the ball and asked who I wanted to autograph it. I said George Brett.  They came back with the ball autographed by Brian McRae.

(have i told this story before? i tell it a lot, it's one of my more interesting stories)

Not gonna lie, when I saw todays lineup, I was like "oh crap!", but somehow they're working this buffoon at the plate and I like it.

leave it to grandpa guthrie to figure out how to keep fielder from really hurting us. just hit him every time. nice strategy by the wily vet.

He had to give up a couple runs though to make it a more Gut-like performance. Why leave 3-0 when you can go out 3-2?
