Royals had given up 2 unearned runs before today. Volquez officially only had one earned run today. Ouch.

Which brings up Posse stat of the day =
Half of ChiSox 10 runs this weekend were unearned

Moose is doing well at the plate but is still a liability on defense.  He has 3 errors already and his bad defensive play(not ruled an error) led to 4 runs the other night when Vargas was pitching in the 6th.  KC came back to win that game.  His error today was HUGE because it could have been a DP.  Even if we only get 1 out on that play, its 3-1 and Volquez strikes out the 3rd out, Inning over.

Walk, wild pitch, walk ..... led to the ChiSox run in suspended game in the 9th Inn
Then 4 unearned runs in the regulation game

Volquez has been awesome so far.   Entering that 6th inning, he had given up 15 hits and only 4 walks in 27.2 Innings

6 ERS allowed in 4 starts as a Royal.

Sample size. He has an above average arm for 3rd, and has average range IMO. He's gonna make mistakes, but he's v good overall in the field.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't call Moose a liability in the field. He's just had a couple bad plays, he makes that play today 9 out of 10 times.

I'm still upset he made that fantastic catch then we preceded to give up 5 runs the same inning and lose the game. Immediately after that catch I thought there was no way we lose.

the earned/unearned run thing is such a stupid stat.  volquez had like 5 opportunities to retire batters following the error, and only got one out.  but none of that is supposed to count against him because of the error?  ridiculous.

errors are a pretty stupid stat too, come to think of it.

Yes.  ERA, errors both dumb in their own right.  Errors even dumber because of how badly they are scored by homer scorekeepers. "You can't assume a double play" exposes the absurd nature of the entire enterprise.

I thought it was definitely a Yosting watching in real-time, especially when he trotted out there after Edinson blew the lead.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Errors and ERA etc are certainly flawed because of the subjectivity of score keeping.

I do think if Moose fields the ball and gets even one out, the Royals probably get out of that inning only giving up 1 run. It is a bit silly to presume the double play and give Volquez no more earned runs because of it though.

Within a single game, yes, errors and ERA are extremely flawed. Within a season, or career, errors and ERA will tell you if a player makes mistakes or not.

Sample size people. Sample size.

FIP, guys. it's a better indicator of a pitcher's performance than era.

ed's fip sucked after moose's error.

0-0 so far, but we're 0-2 when I'm officiating kickball on Wednesday nights, so I think there's something there.

Maybe our players are just super logy on Wednesday due to eating way too many tacos on Taco Tuesday. I bet Moose and Hoz love Taco Tuesday.
