Guys so I was talking to a friend who works at Boulevard, and asking about this crowntown Ale they're releasing. They couldn't use the following words: "Baseball" "Royals" "Royal" "29" "85" and a bunch of other stuff. I was like "Don't you sponsor the Royals? And Sporting let you use their logo right?" She just LOL'd. MLB is pretty uptight.

29?

On the Billy move...it's the best for both sides...hope he does well in Oakland.

billy butler is a top 10 Royal of all time and I'm sad to see him go.

No he isn't.

I agree with Scott.  No rough ridin' way he is top 10.  That is offensive.

If Tonya is referring to bball player, then no way. I'd have to think for a bit if Tonya meant top 10 personality.

I would maybe listen if he had said top 10 offensive player. But he didn't.

You have to be a pretty ridiculously good hitter to be a top 10 all timer as a DH/minus first baseman.

better start getting ready to look for it because i think they want it this way. it opens a roster spot. i don't think they want a designated DH.

Am I the only one who thinks we need to hit more home runs?  It doesn't fit the narrative of speed, and defense and all that stuff that we became famous for but the only reason we swept our way to the world series is because we hit home runs.  We barely made the playoffs because we hit the fewest home runs and we probably won't set tons of records with our bullpen again.  Our bullpen can only be worse, hopefully just a little worse, but it can't be better and the best case scenario for our starting pitching is for them to repeat what they did last year.  So if our bullpen regresses a little, our starting pitching is similar and we still hit the fewest home runs we won't make the playoffs.  This was a lot of rambling but hopefully you get my point about home runs.

Mellinger's column was pretty much exactly what I was thinking regarding William. Good luck to him. I'll clap my ass off when he steps to the plate next year at Kauffman.

He's just outside the top ten in OPS, but he's soldily in the top ten in categories such as H/R/HR/RBI/XBH/BA/BB. If we wouldn't have drafted Hosmer, then Billy would have continued to play a "not totally embarrassing for the most part" first base for us. I don't think it's crazy to argue that he's one of the ten best Royals of all time, but I don't think it's crazy to argue that he's not either.

billy occupied the spot of being the best player for a garbage team for a lot of years. it's hard to rank that person in the list of all time bests. not like it's hard to rank them IN it but hard to decide WHERE they rank in it (if they do belong in the rank). does that make sense? It does when I say it in my head.

it all depends on what criteria you use. i personally wouldn't put him in the ten best but whatever.

Would his stats have been significantly different if the Royals were good during his time here?

We were good last year and his stats got worse, so maybe. :dunno:

Butler was Sweeney 2.0. He's a good player to have, but you cannot build your lineup around him.

I wish Billy all the best, but letting him go at that price is the right move by GMDM.

butler is top 10 in just about every hitting category for the royals all time except for like triples.
