You guys know Weaver is not some lockdown ace right? I mean, don't get me wrong, he is very good and all, but this is not some throw away game. IMO in the AL Kluber, Scherzer, Lester, King Felix, Sale, Gray, Price are all much more scary than Weaver is to me. I mean, he was 22nd in the league in ERA. Still very, very, good but we should be confident that we can score runs tonight. Also, the Angels bullpen is fine, but they don't have anyone near our big 4 (Finnegan is officially on par with HDH IMO). We should expect to get 4 runs tonight, and most of the year, 4 runs has been enough.
Now, the Angels lineup, is v
. This team led all of baseball in runs with 4.77 runs per game (KC had 4.02 RPG) and has guys who can go yard. BUT their park is NOT a homerun park. In fact, their stadium ranks BELOW the K in terms of HR factor in 2014. IF the inevitable fly balls Vargas will give up end up at the wall and not over it, we can shorten the game and get to our pen. Trout is an elite player, and is terrifying, but he did strikeout 184 times this season.
Get a lead, play some outfield defense and we win. Vargas gives up homeruns, and we lose (maybe, I mean, we gave up 2 on Tuesday and still won). I really hope Ned has a short leash on him and if we yank him in the 4th with runners on, do something unconventional like bring in Herrera or Finnegan and not Guthrie or Duffy. If we're pulling Vargas in a close game with runners on, it HAS to be a strikeout reliever coming in.
I think we survive the Jason Vargas experience, and get to FHDH early enough to win.
