Team stats

2012: .716 OPS
2014: .685 OPS

2012: 404 BB
2014: 353 BB (still a week and a half left)

Maybe the person responsible for firing the hitting coach after 2012 should be held accountable. Also, we need better players.

If Billy was hitting his average career numbers right now, the team OPS would be 0.699, with 368 walks

But for real though, its an organizational philosophy. We don't draft, sign, or trade for players who are patient hitters. We look for upside and athleticism, speed, and tools. By the time they are on the team, a hitting coach or manager isn't going to change a hitter's approach as much as I'd like them to.

This article explained it very well: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/03/moneyball-and-bubba/related/

They seem to have changed Salvy's approach pretty significantly.

i didn't just pull those numbers out of my butt hole either, i actually used algebra. i also did not even assume Billy would have had more at-bats by now (which he would if he was hitting better)

Saturday I'm going to the game with my son and then my wife is going to IKEA. Has anyone ever been dropped off at the stadium? Is there a good place to do this? We plan to just take one vehicle to Kansas City.

Used to take cabs all the time. They just drop you off as close as possible. Cabbies know whats up.

but then i realized you aren't taking a cab. i am stupid, you see.

there is a street off the 435 exit that takes you very close to the stadium. that is where we were dropped off.

No real great place but by the taco bell is probably the closest. I've walked from there when I took the bus to the stadium. Not a great walking path down, but you could use the gate 1 entrance which I think is only for taxis, etc. I'm complained a few times to the Royals about no good way to walk down.... Completely ignored...

there was a taco bell on the way that I ate at 3 days in a row one glorious summer.

picture this:
-be lil sd
-staying at the adams mark basically right on top of the stadium
-in KC for like an entire week going to worlds of fun and oceans of fun during the day and royals game every night. summerdreamvacation.gif
-walk home from the royals game after fireworks. too excited to sleep. hit video arcade like a boss. harold baines is playing some game. losemyshit.jpg
-get his autograph. tells me the team is staying there. keep look out for MLB players the entire next day before we leave
-get sad realizing the baltimore orioles team has been staying IN THE SAME HOTEL the entire week and I only saw harold baines

CF3, do you think Butler will be back next year?  Isn't his contract up after this year?  With the benching he has received, I  want to think his Royals days are done in 2 weeks (depending)

That's pretty impressive given the quality of Royals baseball since 2003. Maybe we should go ahead and just put Ned in the Hall of Fame.

He's gone. And its really disappointing he's going out with such a whimper in the highest leverage, biggest games he's ever played in. It would take us picking up his 12 million dollar option to keep him, and there's no way. I think they want to use the DH spot as a platoon, and to give guys (SALVY!) a day off in the field. Frankly, Butler's value is very little, and I think his career will be over soon.

I think he'd have to hit like 12 homeruns, and 4 more in the playoffs to get the option picked up at this point.

It's possible, but we still shouldn't bring him back.

Yeah I think he'd be a free agent? And then we could sign him to a new deal maybe. I don't see it though.

Yeah, the Royals can always renegotiate his contract. They need to find somebody better to fill his roster spot, though.
