There isn't "apathy" as shown by most of the reasons cf3 listed. People here are rough ridin' pumped about this team. Games aren't selling out anymore because you can watch the game on tv literally every night in every market. You don't face the decision of going to the game or checking a box score the next day anymore. But the Royals games consistently have the highest rating in prime time KC tv viewing, which is where the owners will make there money on the next tv deal.

I'd like to see a stat in MLB of what portion of attendance comes from people living 30+ miles from the stadium. I would be willing to bet the Royals are top 10 if not top 5. In part because of how far the stadium is from the Johnson County crowd and partly because how much of the fan base is spread out in smaller cities throughout the Midwest.

Yea, they're probably top 5 too, but at the same time both Dallas and Ft Worth are bigger than KCK and MO combined

Well they are the worst team in the mlb, and have been all year. Yes there are a billion people in dfw, but I think it is more to CF3's point about the season ticket base. The rangers have been in the playoffs for like 8 straight years, and are reaping the rewards now

kind of related to attendance, but show of hands - who thinks the Royals likely go 2-4 on the next roadtrip, dropping out of first place in the division?

prob also explains the attendance.  loser franchise, loser fan mentality.  always waiting for the other shoe to drop.  In my life, I've never seen this team win.  I'm expecting this team to fail.
