Yost has the idea in his head that his starting pitchers have to go atleast 5 or 6 innings or throw 100 pitches. Vargas doesn't have it tonight, why let him get crushed?
Yost doesn't handle his soft tossing lefties any differently than his right handed power arms, which is obviously a mistake. It's infuriating.
Yost has admitted that if his starter has a lead in the 5th, he'll give that starter the benefit of the doubt because he doesn't want to deprive the pitcher of the chance to qualify for a W, i.e., gamble to get the guy through the 5th. Nice guy, I guess, but that certainly jeopardizes the team W when the starter is struggling like Vargas tonight.
