I think it would have been a great benefit to have stronger Chicago ties and I think Howard would have provided that.

Also, would have been nice to already have more of the "trust" relationship built in with XRM.

I'm disappointed, hope there is somebody solid ready to step up and take at least 1 of the final 2 openings. Please no Jay Price.

i don't think you can make a living at kstate recruiting illinois and indiana.  and if you have three of your four coaches from that area, that is clearly your intention.

if chicago was that important to weber, he shouldn't have hired lowery.  better yet, he should have developed enough contacts of his own in his nine years at ui that he could get assts with different regional strengths.

Why not use the resources that are available to you to the most of their capability?

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I don't think there's a metro in the entire country that produces more talent than Chicago. Consider all the quality players from there recently that didn't play in the Big 10.  Jake Pullen, Iman Shumpert, Javale McGee, Jerel McNeal, D.J. Cooper just off the top of my head - I'm sure there's DOZENS more than that - and that's not even counting the blue chips who went elsewhere like Collins, Scheyer, and Davis

XRM originally from Canada is an example of a non-Chicago recruit that Howard had done a great job with, he was clearly capable of uitilizing of his home base and effectively branching out from that.

The hardest part is getting in to Indiana if you're not a state school or a national power. There are plenty of three star prospects in that school. At one point, Lawrence North had 10 D-1 prospects on it's roster. There is plenty of talent in those states, it's just making in-roads. I am in complete favor of recruiting those states. The only problem in Indiana is finding a big-man.

We're not talking about allocating our resources to Wyoming and Montana here, I'd challenge anybody to find 2 states that produce more talent than Illinois and Indiana, and especially from the Chicago area where the appeal of the "home state" school isn't as great.

It sounds like it's done with Howard now anyway, if 1 of the additions to our staff has DFW, Houston, or St. Louis ties, then that's fantastic, let's make it work, but you're never going to hear me complain if we somehow miraculously end up with "too many Chicago ties."
