I bet we will run on first down.
« on: October 30, 2010, 05:19:11 PM »
I was a big LHC Bill Snyder fan, but the play calling is very predictable.  If we are driving down the field with passes, don't worry we will switch it up and run 3 straight times for no yards.  Everyone knows to play the run on first down.  I was saying the entire game that we were very fortunate to still be in the game.  I think everyone in America knew that Oklahoma State would start to score, and instead of our offense playing to win, our play calling was very conservative and we were playing not to lose.  Our defense did good enough to get the win, but our coaches were so stupid that they didn't take advantage, and use normal play calling to get the win.  You can see how easy we can score when the coaches open up the play calling.
We are very fortunate to have the record that we have.  We have gotten very lucky, but will only win one more game if we don't just let our offense try to score with normal playcalling.  It isn't fun to watch this crappy play calling, and in Snyders earlier years the play calling wasn't anything like this.  Heck, today if something was working we just stopped doing it.

Meh, show me a team that hasn't bitched about their play calling.

I'm kind of missing the "bold and daringness" on offense.

My fault, I forgot to ask what it is ok to bitch about.  I guess play calling has nothing to do with football.

Our play calling pretty much sucks every game.

A) Opening up the playbook with this team would have resulted in more of an ass kicking than we already endured.

B) With CC at QB Bill's playbook changes. We're not running the Ell Roberson offense with him. The play calling is conservative, not only because Snyds has always been a relatively conservative play caller, but also because the talent level is low, especially when you consider the lack of depth we have. Giving the ball to DT more than 50% of the time is exactly what this team should be doing, whether it is exciting or appealing to fans doesn't matter.

C) When exactly were we "driving down the field with passes"? Admittedly, I missed the 1st quarter.

D) Against teams with at least our talent level or more, I fail to "see how easy we can score when the coaches open up the play calling." I suppose the Baylor game is the only example of this.

At some point, doesn't the score of the game come into play?  Football games have a clock, and when it is at 0:00 in the 4th quarter, the game ends with the team having the most points being declared the winner.  Playing conservatively to keep the game in reach is only a good strategy if at some point you try and win the game.

Another way to look at why we play conservatively...we are not that good.
