Kinda wish we would do that. Being afraid to play WSU for fear of losing is more of a uk thing
What's the benefit of playing a decent in-state MVC team?
National TV: No.
Venturing into hot recruiting territory: No.
Financial incentive: No.
RPI. WSU should never be a negatie for our sos/rpi (>250), and most years it would be beneficial to play them (top 100 many seasons). I also love that 3 season rotation. 1 home, 1 road-neutral, 1 true neutral. Again, helps our RPI. 2 out of 3 meetings with some kind of neutral shading w/out having to leave the state.
It would be nice to play a game in Wichita every 3 seasons (every other would be ok w/ me). Doesn't matter much for basketball recruiting obviously. However, Wichita is a nice football recruiting area. Anything that ups our profile there can't hurt with that. Also nice to have a "home" game there periodically for our fans in that area.
I seriously doubt a series as rumored above was offered. If it was I would be shocked to find out it had been turned down. It's by no means an "elite" series, but how many of those are we going to play every season? Does it make more sense for something like that then so. miss, chicago st (understand that's for Jake), or almost any mid-major? I would say definitely yes.
The only real argument against it is that WSU doesn't "deserve" a series with us. Or that they might beat us, and that would be worse then loosing to another random decent mid-major (was my feeling when we sucked as a program and actually did recruit "against" them). Both are weak arguments now imo. Plus, say what you want about WSU. That game would have more juice then any other team of similar standing (and we'll still be playing those kinds of teams every season whether we sign WSU or not).
Hell, I've even warmed to the idea of a home/"home" series if they agreed to play it at the larger Wichita venue and give us a healthy chunk of the tickets.
