2007KU has Lew Perkins making the University $$ money hand over fist. Mangino goes to the Orange Bowl, the football team goes 7-1 in conference and dominates V Tech in Miami. The basketball team wins the National Championship and is stacked. New basketball and football facilities were built. Mangino was their football coach and named Coach of the Year. Bill Self won the B12 regular season and conference.
K-State lost its AD Tim Weiser and in June 2008 hired Bob Krause, who had no AD experience at any level. K-State's 2007 football team finished it's 2nd season with Ron Prince, going 5-7 (3-5 in conference) and lost its last 4 games, including a 45-29 loss to Fresno State. Despite that, Krause- who everyone viewed as Wefald's lackey, extended Prince for an additional 5 years- through 2012.
Huggins left. In what many viewed as an act of desperation, Wefald and Weiser hire Frank Martin and Te 400k. K-State was mocked for selling out just to keep the commitments of Beasley and Walker. Martin had never been head coach in college, at any level. Dalonte Hill was 27 years old and entering his 5th year in college coaching. K-State made him the highest paid Assistant Coach in the game. K-State had no basketball practice facilities or plans for them, or donations for them and was mired in buyouts from Prince, the Krause fall-out, Wefald, etc.
NowKU football is 2-4 and won't win another game for the next 4 seasons. Their athletic department is under FBI investigation and they don't have an Athletic Director. Their new Chancellor is an academic who values books over balls. Their basketball team's season is depending upon a kid gaining eligibility (we're 2 weeks out from the first game) and who, despite being in high school, is best friends with Carmelo Anthony's agent.
K-State hires AD Currie (young stud) and our football team is 5-1 (2-1) with our only loss to the eventual National Champion team, just drilled KU 59-7 in a game that wasn't even that close and has construction on the state of the art stadium expansion set to begin in 1Q11.
K-State basketball team finished 2nd in the B12, made an elite eight appearance, has two preseason all-conference picks, has the preseason player of the year, is the preseason pick to win the conference, and is just months away from breaking ground on a new practice facility that will rival any in the country. Watch it all on ESPN tonight. KU's Late Night will be featured on Metro Sports Time Warner, in KC.
SummaryHow KU managed to eff up this badly is beyond me.
