Fun game to watch today against Slovenia, but that's the first time I've been able to say that in a while.  Attacking was a lot better, but there are still too many bad lapses.

Has it been discussed how much better Ian Darke is than John Harkes?  We're pretty lucky to have Ian announcing our games.

Fabian Johnson

Darke replaced JP Dellacamara and yes Darke is amazing although I wasn't a fan of the GOAL GOAL USA call from the WC that everyone else seemed to love.

got a fun game vs Scotland ahead. No Dempsey still nursing a hamstring injury from the end of the season at Fulham. I am interested to see how players like Torres and Boyd look. Should be a decent game tonight.

Come on you Yanks!

3 from Landon
1 (a wonderstrike) from Bradley
1 from Jones

own goal from Cameron for Scotland's only goal

5-1

great start for this run of 5 games.

overall great game...but Scotland isn't the best side. 19 spots behind the USA in the FIFA world rankings.

up next...Brazil in DC

He's Brazilian. So, no. Unless this is about pounding all kinds of strange, freaky brazilian pussy. Then, yes.

Was thinking of going to US-Brazil game in DC. But it's a "friendly". Sounds boring and meaningless.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

yeah, it's stupid that they just don't call them open scrimmages.

Also, with all of the little kids playing soccer out there and the way that soccer has exploded circa 1994, why the eff aren't we better?

Small communities just don't play soccer. There will never be a soccer Jordy.

Lots of smallish communities play soccer, just not past about the 6th grade. If the US could ever get more JH/HS to play soccer it would probably help. If my HS would have had soccer I probably would have played. I don't like to brag, but I was a pretty damn good goalie for my team as a 6th grader :gocho:

We should be better.  no question.

BUT, IMO the reason we're not better is that our most gifted athletes aren't playing soccer.  It's also a cultural thing.  American kids are given plastic basketball goals instead of soccer goals.  parking lots, driveways, and blacktops in suburbs and urban cores alike are littered with basketball goals across the country.  Soccer fields aren't found in urban cores.  It's still a relatively privileged sport that doesn't have a presence within a lot of American culture.

My hometown of 1,400 people had soccer but it was later replaced with flag football.  We had the Wichita Wings come to our soccer camp one year when I was really little and I got my picture with Chico Moreira, the greatest soccer player to ever play the game.
