There isn't a men's keeper in the history of the world that would have saved Heather O'Reiley's goal in todays game.

Also, it was a joke, was more thinking of the jabs everybody used to make regarding k-state basketball circa nicole ohlde and jim wooldridge.

you might be on to something - i'm pretty sure ohlde could score on the men's team.  maybe not if neckbrace took over for bradley.

What's the deal with Brazilians only using one name?   In the box scores, they even use a single initial.  Seems like that would get confusing.

The only call that was terrible in retrospect was the non-offside call on the Marta goal.  The red card was iffy and the encroachment on the PK was legit.

Incredible how inept the truck made the announcers look.  You can't queue up 15 replays and inform the announcers until after the game?

Encroachment was the call?  Why was the card given to the keeper?  And there's a difference between legit and what is traditionally a penalty.  It doesn't matter if a rule is on the books that's never called strictly.  When you make a strict call like that it lends itself to questions regarding your intent/motives.

I think the keeper got carded for running her mouth. From what I've seen, many of the female referees don't handle criticism well.

Oh Hope got in the refs crap about that call.  I have yet to see what the call was.  Yes there was a play encroaching at the top of the box, but that is rarely called.  She could have yellow carded Solo for coming off the line too I think for a delay.  We also don't know if the ref called the reshot on hope 'coming off her line' but that would be one of the most disastrous calls in world cup if that were true.

Love the fact that everyone of the Brazil PKs their goalie was completely off line, so I'm glad they went advantage on 4/5 shots.

To be fair, the US did get a rekick on the only shot the Brazil goalkeeper stopped because of that.

If you watch the PKs over, the Brasil keeper, though less egregiously, did the same thing on every PK.  Bottom line, all indications are that the yellow given to the american keeper was for coming off the line, which she did not.  It was a bad call.  If the americans had lost, it would be a crap storm of epic proportions.  Brasil scored zero legitimate goals.

that is why i said 4/5, I wasn't very clear there

the offsides no call on the cross to Marta was rough ridin' horrible.  All tournament they have been making tight calls which err on the defensive side, and the lineswoman blows that one hard.

We got away with the intentional hand ball too with whats her face carrying the yellow.

I really think these refs were just horribly incompetent and didn't know how to handle Brazil getting in their grill till the end of the game when the yellows started flowing.  I mean if I issued a yellow and than the player was still jawing at me and touched me I would drop a straight red and skip a soft red.

Jesus were Tortuga and I the only people that saw the ESPN iso shot of USA encroaching the box before Marta took the PK?  It may have been ticky tack, but it was clearly encroachment.  Solo got the yellow for bitching to the referee's assistant.  There is no yellow card for a keeper coming off of the line early, hence no yellow card for the Brazilian keeper for being called for coming off the line during the shootout.  Dumbasses.

The game was insanely entertaining, it had everything you could ask for from a fans perspective.

It's easy to concentrate on the bad calls, but the feeling of winning despite them made it all worth it.  Seeing the crowd completely turn against Brazil was also a nice bonus in a time where the US isn't very popular.

For the people saying the encroachment call was legitimate, you're obviously right but when they don't make that call 99% of the time you can understand why people feel like somethings up.  If you watch it in real time there was almost no gap from the kick to when she took a step inside the box.

youre an idiot if you think there aren't rules on the book to give refs the authority to caution players.  Maybe you mistook my comment to me saying coming off the line is a caution, I was not trying to make that point.  Rather if she was warned before hand don't come off early or cause any delay that could be cardable because you are not obeying a ref.

Also I have yet to see any thing about what was called.  Solo didn't know what was called.  It was probably the encroachment from on top of the box.  That is still a shitty call and the rule is never that strictly enforced.  If we are going to get that strict where were all the cards for Brazil's time wasting and flopping?  It was just a crap game from that reffing crew.

I was amazed at how many of the neutral fans turned against Brazil.  Marta was getting whistled so much, deservedly so.

Obviously you were jacking off or something while watching the game, no big deal I guess you got to get of in when you fit it in I guess.  Two things that invalidate your long winded and boring post.

1. We know the ref called encroachment because Hope Solo said the ref told her she called encroachment.  It doesn't matter if it was ticky tack, the replay clearly showed encroachment.
2. Erika was given a yellow card for flopping and stalling.  The only way you could have missed that is if you were hiding the crusty sock from mommy.
