The wife and I took 8 days and toured the New England states from Oct 1-8. I know this is not real sports related but just wanted to share a few things. Started in Rhode Island then drove through Conn, Mass, Maine, New Hamp, Vermont and Eastern NY. Our plan was to try and never drive on any road other than a two lane highway and never eat in any chain restaurants. We drove 1300 miles and 1200 of those were two lane curving beautiful fall foliage scenic drives through small villages with the white steepled churches and town squares. Colors were wonderful. A very helpful book was "The Most Beautiful Drives In America". Anyway, didnt want to come back to Manhattan even though we love it here.
Several sports related items: 1) Got tired of people asking if Manhattan was where KU is located. 2) Got a few comments about the Thur NU game. Polite but not much I could say. 3) Steve Grogan is still well known up there and very respected. 4) Watched the NU game at our hotel in Albany. Was nice to be able to get the game anywhere we wanted to stop for the night. It just happened to be Albany (the one larger town we stayed in). 5) Met a retired guy at the Bennington Rev War monument in Bennington, Vt. When he learned I was from Manhattan, Ks he said he was a Marshall fan and had been to Man for a game. He said "You have the nicest FB fans I've ever met anywhere in the US. We got invited to eat at many many tailgate parties as we walked through the parking lot both before and after the game. Couldn't believe how nice everyone was!" Was nice to hear.
Anyway, it was one of our all time favorite vacations. Vermont and New Hamp were the best. History everywhere and incredible scenery. We're going back.
