Field Condition?
« on: October 06, 2010, 11:20:07 PM »
Anyone know if they've done anything about the godawful condition of our field?  During the Baylor/KU game (hahaha!) the announcers said they used Downy to reduce static and get the rubber sand to settle down where it belongs.  All I know is I go back and watch our first few games and it looks freaking terrible.  I'd like to think that we would do something about it before the whole country tunes in.

Maybe a little Husker blood will get it looking good as new.

I don't care if chunks of it come up and have to be patched over like the old vet astroturf.  I don't want a dime spent on anything until the basketball practice facility has broken ground.  Don't talk to me about walking and chewing gum either, not a fracking dime.  You know what looks even better on t.v. then new turf?  A top 25 basketball program every season.  Plus seams and dead spots are hell on visitors.  Win/win.

Unless the plans involve cammo field turn (purple & steel ftw).  Then we can allocate funds.

Baylor has PrestigeTurf that's only 5 years old.   K-State has FieldTurf Classic that's 9 years old.   The product typically has a 10 year lifespan.   Both products are now owned by the same company.   K-State will install new turf next year.   FieldTurf classic's problem was the blade design allowed for Rubber infill to come up to the surface easier.   It still plays fine, but looks bad . . . the new products don't have that issue.   K-State has a newer generation FieldTurf product in the indoor facility and on the baseball infield.    They probably should installed a new generation FieldTurf in BSFS when they installed the other other 2.   But remember who was AD at the time . . .  Timmy was going to get his decades worth of use out of the field in BSFS come hell or high water.   It's my understanding that they test what is called the G Max values on the field every year . . .  but I couldn't tell you for sure.

Always happy to be that guy . . . and as is the case more and more these days . . . do not care what others say.

For those not interested in reading this diatribe on different brands of turf:

Curry said we get new turf next year.  Paid for out of operating cash flow (no effect to practice facility).

But we're going to get one soon.  It will so beautiful.  If only your uncle would be around to see it.

So the answer to the original poster's question is, "No, we don't know if they are doing anything to the field tonight."

The planning and construction phases actually take a lot of time when you don't just buy a Morton building and put fake stone and clip art all over it.
