Random-Ass Memzys From Past Nebraska Weeks thread
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:01:02 AM »
No d-baggy peeing contests here, just weird mems.

Remember when we played Nebraska in Tokyo in 1992??  That was crazy and  Best part of this video?  Listen to the AMAZINGLY 1992-y song the band plays in the background at 7:48.

Other random mem: before either the 1998 game or the 2000 game, I remember they gave away a weird promotional hat thingy that was weird.  It wasn't quite a winter cap and it wasn't quite any other kind of normal hat.  It was pretty much a cheapo ski mask, I guess.  But I do remember it was designed to look like a Qhatz football helmet.  One problem, though, was that it was totally knock-off-y and crappy, and they forgot to put the little ear thingy in the powercat.  It was just gray like the rest of the background.  Anybody still have theirs?

Final random mem for this post: while tailgating before the 1998 game, a close parental relative of TrustTheDust did a tenth-grade SkinnyBenny a favor and poured some liquor in his Dr. Thunder when he wasn't looking.  Was totally a Garth Algar moment from Wayne's World 2 when he's with Honey Hornay and she pours him a drink and he spits it out and goes, "This Coke's gone bad."  But then TTD's parent was looking back at me like  :peek: and I knew it was a very special day and that we would not lose.

Now you go.

I used to pull cable for the jumbo-tron camera down on the field when I was in high school.  After the 2000 Nebraska game the students took our cable and started looping it around the goal post to try to help pull it down but it kept breaking.  I told the camera guy that I was going to try to get it back but really I just went and joined in the celebration.  I didn't come back for a couple hours and by that time they knew what happened and the camera guy was pissed.

On the field you work with 2 other guys and since I was in charge of finding the other 2, I had my cousin and my friend.  They joined me in the festivities and in the end we all got fired.

It was a sweet gig while it lasted with full access to anything during our best years, but I can't say I regret doing it.

That is an incred. story and way worth it.   :katpak: :katpak: :katpak: :katpak: :katpak:

Other rando mem.: After the 98 goalposts finally came down I followed them to Aggieville with all the wasted college d00ds.  It was against my mom's wishes, you guys!  Then I walked home (maybe three miles?) and my mom was furious because she told me before the game was over not to run on the field.  Got grounded but it was totally worth it.

Haven't the "students" managed to pull down the "indestructible" goal posts twice now?

I recall after the first time the company that makes them, and guarantees them flew some engineers out to look at what remained.   I still remember all the Cornholes saying, "Oh look they are so bad they can't even pull down the goal posts" . . .  when in fact, the K-State crowd was the first ever to actually bring down that type of goal post.   Others have tried . . . and failed.

One of my other memories was listening to the 1991 and 1993 games on the radio . . . both games were in Lincoln and K-State really choked both of them away.   Very disappointing.

I remember watching the highlights on SportsCenter and they said, "It took them THIRTY MINUTES to get the goalposts down!"  I was all  :horrorsurprise: that they turned our great success into an apparent failure.  Horrorsurprised in the true sense of the word.

My fondest "vs NU" memory (besides the highlight years of 98, 00, 03) was the 2004 game. The 4-2 Huskers were supposed to finally be firing on all cylinders with new coach B. Callahan. They show up in Manhattan, KS to play the 2-4 Wildcats (who'd already lost to Fresno St, KU, OU and aTm). As we all remember, the 'Cats played very well that day and smoked the Corn by like 20. It was really the last "eff Yeah" game before the HCBS retirement game and the 2 FHCRP Texas wins.

Mems.  Short for memories, brah.

Went to the game at Nebraska in 2003.  Sat next to some Nebraska chode in a black leather jacket, obviously trying to impress this date by being too cool for school.  When we celebrated a touchdown by standing and cheering, he turned to me and told me to "Calm down, it's not that big of a deal."   :ohno:

Would have been faster if people had thought of ropes in the first place.  Honestly, K-State should install the breakaway goalposts like Colorado had when they rushed the field against Georgia.

Nah, Buffies rush the field practically every time they win. We are far more selective. Hard to justify the cost of new goal "breakaway" posts that will never be taken down in the first place.

I still can't believe we did that. I've seen the specs on them and it's pretty unreal.

So glad to know that I'm not the only one who does that.

And how has nobody commented on the 1992 pep band playing Bobby Brown's "Humpin' Around"?!?

I used to have one of those "Oops, We Did It Again" t-shirts that Ballard's was selling the day after we beat Nebraska in 2000 at the height of Britney's career.

In 1998 I was a H.S. Junior, and huge ksu cats fan.  I remember calling in to some national sports radio talk show before the season and telling them the cats would be in the national championship that fall and to my surprise the guy agreed.   Anyway, I had a bunch of buds over at my house watching the game and we drank sodas and snacks as we watched the greatest ksu victory, like, ever.  Remember that we missed one of ksu's first TD's because they cut into something about Pres. Clinton talking about a war of some kind.  Then I remember how the shitty ABC camera crew missed the final TD pass to McDonald and we were all like... "where did the ball go?"  but then it showed that he caught it and we were like  :woot:.

Later on 3 friends and I were driving around town (mpls ks.) whooping it up, I remember we went to this huge husker fans house and one of my buds rang his door bell then we all honked the horn and yelled at the old NU fan as we sped away.

Soon after, I decided that we needed to go to Manhattan and party.  I had never been partying in Manhattan before so me and my three buds loaded up into my dads Pontiac Gran Prix and made a bee-line for MHK.  When we got there it was glorious there were people out in the streets and Aggieville was a mad house.  Once we parked my buds and I went over to the Theta Xi frat house and some dudes from our HS poured us some drinks and we pre-drank before heading over to the Delta Sigma Phi (i don't know if that is right) over on the corner by City Park.  I guess they call it the haunted hospital.

Wow that place was a dump if I ever saw one but there were a few kegs and they had a real DJamer and the party was pretty incred, especially for me.   Then I started necking with this babe, she thought I was cool when I told her that I was a soph. at Fort Hays, she had a belly button ring.  I felt her boobs, only the second boobs ever for nicname.  Later, me and my buds and the other dudes from the Theta Xi house were like, this place is a dump.  So we decided to vandalize it by pissing in their potted plants(inside the house) and taking one of their plaques.

Finally at around 1AM one of my buds was dancing on the stairs of the frat house leading up to the second floor and he fell and knocked over the railing of the steps.  I think the frat leader had had enough so we left victoriously.

My dad grounded me for like 2 weeks for it.  I told him that it was worth it.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

When I was a freshman in 2000 I worked at Rusty's Last Chance (I thought this was way cool BTW) in the kitchen and those bastards scheduled me for work on the day of the NU game.  Well, lucky for me I got out of work in time to head over to the game.

Anyway, during half-time I went out to the tailgate and loft my pass-out.  So after deliberating what to to for a bit, I just waited for my opportunity and I just walked right through the gate and into the stadium.  WITH NO PASS OUT

Incredible.  Partied AND touched a boob?  Awesome night.  I think there were a lot of young EMAWs that got grounded by their parents that night.

Impossible, unless you're talking about what he was doing at Cal State Northridge.
