i used to sell cd-r copies of old urge and 2 skinnee j's cd's on ebay (napster had been around for less than a year at this point, so this stuff was fairly hard to find).  one day stumpy e-mailed me and said that i technically wasn't doing anything illegal since the albums were out of print, but asked very nicely to please stop.

so i did.

There were two movie theatres in the 'ville back in the day.  Before Powercat Illustrated it was the Varsity Theatre and I saw Trainspotting there!

One of my fondest mems was seeing 2 Skinny J's at Silverados then getting weird with them after the show. 

Safari Jacks was in the building that burned down, but the bar was called Aggie Station when it burned down.  I think it was called Gilligan's then became Safari Jacks (neither were popular) and had huge fake jungle creatures and palm tree in there.  There used to be a house on Bluemont that had the Safari Jacks sign tacked up on their balcony/ front porch. 

Aggie Station was cool from what I remember.

Before Safari Jack's and Aggie Station it was the original Lucky Brewgrille.

The best frat bar in the Ville, the owner really liked coke and one of the bartenders that I remember looked like a young Peter North, could have been Pissclams.

F U to whoever thinks this is the old people thread. Other than Maes, almost every bar you guys have talked about in this thread opened after I left MHK. Luckybrew opened and then burned down in my time.

I haven't talked to Denney in five or six years. He was 'tending while I was there. Rob was the owner. Sold it to JD around the time I left. Maes was where I was at 80% of my bar time. Occasionally I'd check out something else, but it was almost always a bust. Also, Maes being the Rugby bar had a lot to do with being there all of the time. We always tried to support our sponsors to the fullest.

Does Mike Duncan still set at the bar and drink coffee? He used to be shitfaced drunk all of the time at Maes, until he cleaned up and started working at Hibachi.

3 other spots the urge played at in mhk - the warehouse, berlin, and the waydown lounge - so there's that. Prob played the wareham too at some point for all I know.

Indeed. In fact The Urge played with 2 Skinneee Jays and Paw (weird bill) at The Wareham in 1999. 

And yes, I can't believe I forgot it was Aggie Station when it burned.

Just got off of the phone with a bud at the Riley County Historical Society.  Recent posts in this thread have captured the attention of high ranking officials at RCHS, as a couple of the curators have previously voiced interest in preparing an exhibit regarding the historic Aggieville district (most notably, defunct bars).  I believe that they are extremely interested in bars from the riot days and bars that have burned down, so young people need not be concerned with this.  Here's their website for contact info; http://www.rileycountyks.gov/index.aspx?NID=328

Aggieville needs an elected Committee of non-townies to screen the names of bars before they open.  Or, maybe just the bars opened by that douce-nozzle Allred. 

First, Tanks (plural not possessive) Tavern.  Now Chuggers.  I think he also owns Shot Stop and Bomb Bar.  Somebody needs to have a talk with this guy.  Then there's my personal favorite - Drinx.   

In related news, I saw the Goose and Aggie Station over in the Pizza Hut area.  What's the story on these places?  I can't remember what was there before these places went in...

Kathouse owners bought Purple Pig and turned it into Aggie Station.

1/4 of Pizza Hut turned into The Goose. It's very weird.
