Used Car Salesmen
« on: September 11, 2010, 08:41:31 AM »
Been a long time since I've dealt with one of these clowns that wasn't a relative.  Been out looking for the last week or so since my truck shot craps.  One place we stopped at we ended up dealing with four different guys.  Was at used car lots for one of the big dealers you hear advertised in the KC area.

Guy 1--Obviously a new guy still learning.  Nice guy.  Had some EMAW.  Dealt with us square, but of course had to run everything through the boss.  This was the best we got.

Guy 2--Stopped at one of their other lots.  Pulled out the "I'm your friend here" card.  No, you're not.  I met you 45 minutes ago.  Tried to get me to make an offer without consulting the wife.  Said would you offer $1000 on a $10K car.  Finally said Yes, knowing full well that it wasn't going to be accepted.  So patronizingly he gets up and says "OK, I'll go ask" and walks up to the desk, chats for a minute and comes back and bids me adieu.  Douche.

Guy 3--Stopped back in the first place to look for Guy #1, but he had gone home, so talked with Guy 3.  Didn't introduce himself or even say hi.  Before I sat down I asked to use the restroom.  Left my wife to sit at the desk across from him.  Didn't say a word to her or even look at her.  Kept punching away on the computer.  She told the manager we weren't dealing with him anymore.

Guy 4--Sales Manager.  Was professional the first several times we dealt with him.  Took vehicle out for an overnight test drive and to have a mechanic give it the once over.  Transfer case and evap unit needed some work, so we asked for those to be fixed before purchased.  Negotiated for awhile.  Gave an offer, then another. He came back with a price $300 higher than the sticker he quoted the first day with the fixes or sticker price, plus warranties and just the transfer case fix.  Turned that down.  The transfer case could shoot craps 6 months down the line and we'd be SOL for $2000 plus labor. Said he couldn't fix it and come down off the price.  Then he said the thing that really turned us off. Told us that he could offer that price to the next guy who would only look at the price, mileage, carfax, etc and not even notice the transfer case and he would take it.  Didn't care that the car he was selling was a breakdown hazard.  We walked out.  He'll probably call us back Tuesday.  Not even sure we want to deal with that douche anymore.  So still looking.

My game plan is for my car to just run forever so I don't have to deal with these fuckers.

Buy new and not shazbot! with these losers. :dunno:

As annoying as these tards are, its better than buying a $20K car and have it be an $11K car in four years.

Somebody's got to buy the new ones, so there will be used ones for the rest of us to buy.

Thanks, bro.

There are so many options out there to completely rob a dealer of a new car, why look at used now?

As long as you are flexible to a certain degree, you can damn near steal a car right now.

Find what you want and pit them all against each other.

Then you get warranty and usually some other free crap.

CNS Casey, what are your thoughts on the 2011 Porsche Cayenne?

I wouldn't buy it used.

Also, my above theory doesn't work for cars like a Porsche.  There isn't 5 local dealers trying to sell you the same Porsche.
