Roundabouts
« on: September 08, 2010, 11:41:27 PM »
Just curious why there are so many in Kansas. There seems to be one at quite a few Turnpike exits and then theres one on Bluemont in Manhattan near the mall. Just curious why you guys think this is such a good idea.

Maybe if Iowa had some more roundabouts, it wouldn't be knee deep in skunk water.  Just sayin'.

Like em in certain settings.  Don't care for ones randomly placed in neighborhoods.  All in all, I guess they do look nice.

the mall

qft.  Havs, don't be a dumbass that isn't near the mall.

My joke was that Havs' point of reference in any city he visits is its mall.

When well designed with the proper amount of space they actually facilitate the flow of traffic. I have no idea what idiot thought it was a good idea to put them on residential streets in Manhattan that see virtually no through traffic, or even why they haven't been taken out.

They're there to prevent high school students from speeding through the neighborhoods near the high school. Notice they're only in neighborhoods around there.

I remember very few of them in MHK during my time there (97-01)and the ones I remember being there were pleasing to the eye and seemingly conducive to traffic.  Seems like there are quite a few more now-a-days.  Maybe a MHK lifer can chime in...

There's quit a few more of them elsewhere. East and south of campus, to name a few.

Fort Riley has quite a few, and they actually work well. I have no idea how the Bluemont one will work.

That is a roundabout.  What waks is referring to isn't a roundabout, i think.  Roundabouts are wonderful.

Yeah, waks is referring to a traffic circle. Those suck. Roundabouts are great at moderately high-traffic intersections. At a low-traffic intersection, stop signs are more efficient.

It's hard for me to thing of Europeans as sexy, what with the BO and female armpit hair issues.
