Guys, I figured it out.

The death figures from the CDC are from 2011. The donation figures vary w/r/t source and year.

one of my favorite signs from any KU-KSU bball game was the classic Alien vs Predator, starring Russell Robinson and Blake Young

That was pretty great.

Sometimes I think of the Book of Job and how God likes to really eff with people.

Son of a bitch, TBT you know something most that roam this earth are not aware of; we live in a universe that is Infinitely Small and the Infinitely Large.  I think we are a type of cancer on a living cell; once we are able to travel from cell to cell in this universe, we'll destroy it.

I honestly don't think we will ever make it out of our own solar system, let alone make it to another star.  The vastness of space and the rules that govern it pretty much make it impossible for this to happen.  We are years away from even sending someone to Mars, and distance wise is comparable to moving a couple of inches off the surface of earth and the nearest star being the moon.

The cosmic speed limit and the amount of energy to even make it close to the speed of light require some form of energy source that probably doesn't exist.  That coupled with the question nobody ever discusses if we were to even try to leave earth.  Humans need the earths gravity for a baby to be born.  The extremely short life spans of humans compared to the amount of time needed to travel great distances just doesn't add up.

Also ever heard of the Fermi paradox?

That's why if aliens exist, they have never been to earth.

http://joshworth.com/dev/pixelspace/pixelspace_solarsystem.html

that was one of the coolest things i have ever seen.  the distances are just unimaginable and that was just our solar system, that map didnt even include the kuiper belt and oort cloud.  to think that there are billions or trillions of other galaxies with each a couple hundred billion/trillion stars in each one is just incredible.  cant tell me there isnt something else intelligent out there, we will just never see it, unless of course we find it in our own solar system.

i also did that whole thing while listening to chillstep, made it that much more awesome

so before you click this, fair warning, not for the squeamish.  so backstory is this 83 year old lady fell and hit her head and developed an acute subdural hematoma.  now if you're not familiar with what an acute subdural hematoma is, its basically when you get bleeding between the brain and its outer covering.  can be fatal and they need to make it quit, and this is part of the surgery.

You should post more cool things like this and less bitching about #1Thread not being managed right by the blog.
