Projected depth chart/player mpg
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:06:46 PM »
Projected starters and reserves listed by main position:

PG - Jacob Pullen, Martavious Irving, Will Spradling, Juevol Myles
SG - Rodney McGruder, Shane Southwell, Nick Russell, Jarrod Kruger
SF - Jamar Samuels, Nino Williams, Victor Ojeleye
PF - Curtis Kelly, Wally Judge
C  - Freddy Asprilla, Jordan Henriquez-Roberts

I know, Nick Russell is considered a PG, but I think he'll spend more time at SG.

Projected minutes per game:

Jacob Pullen: 33
Curtis Kelly: 25
Jamar Samuels: 25
Freddy Asprilla: 19
Wally Judge: 17
Rodney McGruder: 17
Jordan Henriquez-Roberts: 10
Martavious Irving: 10
Nick Russell: 8
Shane Southwell: 8
Will Spradling: 8
Nino Williams: 8
Juevol Myles: 5
Victor Ojeleye: 4
Jarrod Kruger: 3

Projected minutes played at each position:

1 - Jacob Pullen: 18, Martavious Irving: 8, Will Spradling: 8, Juevol Myles: 3, Nick Russell: 3
2 - Jacob Pullen: 15, Rodney McGruder: 9, Nick Russell: 5, Shane Southwell: 4, Jarrod Kruger: 3, Martavious Irving: 2, Juevol Myles: 2
3 - Jamar Samuels: 16, Rodney McGruder: 8, Nino Williams: 8, Victor Ojeleye: 4, Shane Southwell: 4
4 - Curtis Kelly: 20, Wally Judge: 11, Jamar Samuels: 9
5 - Freddy Asprilla: 19, Jordan Henriquez-Roberts: 10, Wally Judge: 6, Curtis Kelly: 5

This is just my best guess based on things I've seen posted here, news stories, and stats. Does it seem realistic, or off base? Anyone with inside info or higher bbiq please chime in.

Jamar will not make the transition to the three as his primary spot.

Staying strong in this belief.

Hope I am wrong.

We don't really have anyone else to play the three.  (Unless Nino comes in dominates from the get-go, which is asking quite a bit for a frosh, especially a frosh who wasn't even planning on being at college this year until very recently.)  Can't really have CK, Jam Sam, and Wally splitting minutes at the 4, either.

Jake, Tay/Russell, McGrudes

Three guard set.

If or when Jamar does play the 3, it won't be the step-out-and-drive/shoot type of 3.  It will be the basically-two-4's-on-the-floor-at-the-same-time type of 3.

You know what I hate?  When people use the word "frosh." That is all.  Carry on.

I don't much care for it either.  I wont't be using again.

I like this.  Jam Sam splits time at the 3/4 and Judge splits time at the 4/5?

I hope Russell starts.

I hope Russell starts being a good player. He wasn't last season.

Jake and Tay are better, and I bet Sprads is too. I know Nick has improved over the summer, but so has everyone else. Then again, I haven't seen their practices so I could be full of crap.

I'd love to see some of you guys' player/position/mpg breakdowns.

How do you know he wasn't a good player? He never got the chance to play because Frank only cares about defense. Also, there's no way Tay is a better player than Russell.

I admit the sample size is small, since Nick played only 142 minutes the whole season compared to Tay's 339. But I think it's enough as long as you're not comparing on a per-game basis. Look at their stats side-by-side:

http://statsheet.com/mcb/players/compare?add=martavious-irving&p1=nick-russell

Nick had a few advantages over Tay. Notably, he was a much better defensive rebounder, which seems natural given his 3" height advantage. But Tay's assist to turnover ratio was much better, and his offensive rating was better. He also had a higher steal percentage. Just going by the numbers, Tay was the better player last season. But I'm open to other arguments. I know Nick was a higher-rated recruit, so maybe he just had a bad season? :dunno:

Nick's biggest issue last year was that he looked like a FP when handling the ball.

So, you've moved all my starters up one spot, knocking Asprilla out of the starting lineup and adding Tay to the 1 spot. It's possible.  :dunno:

His A/T ratio was pretty bad. Compare his 0.6 to Tay's 1.6.

Ben's lineup would be okay for certain matchups but I don't think Kelly is big enough at C.  Move him over to the 4, with Spri at the 5.

Wasn't he recruited as a PG?
