First a shot towards KU:

Quote
SE: You mention basketball as a priority. I would imagine that Frank Martin's run to the Elite Eight last year was a most enjoyable experience for you.

Schulz:  Oh my, yes. Men's basketball clearly had a positive effect on how people perceived our school. A lot of people who have followed K-State for many years were saying that it's back to where it used to be. Kansas State is perceived to be on par, if not better, than KU.

Then to Wefald:

Quote
Schulz: Absolutely. K-State needs to aspire to greater things. Under Dr. Wefald, we talked about our Rhodes and Trumans, which were great ... fantastic. But now I hear, `Kirk, you're not promoting that all the time.' I say, `No, I'm trying to promote 20 things about our University. We have to aspire higher in a variety of areas.'

When we talk to our donors, they want to see us aspire higher. They will give you $500,000, but if you aspire higher, they might give you $5 million. We want to be able to ask for $5 million because we have a plan to get to a higher level. We want to develop a mood of, `You're going somewhere and I want to come along for the ride.'

Man, he certainly isn't resting on his laurels after receiving the goEMAW Certificate of Participation.

It's a big honor and something I'm sure he worries about living up to.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

Well, it's a legitimate concern.  Some may just phone it in after grabbing that brass ring.  Good to see that this is not the case.

He could have gone 2 routes.  Sat back and reveled in making the big time, or push on to a possible invite to sit with some legendary goEMAW'ers at the Basketball Banquet.

He chose to push for a seat at the table.  I'm proud.

Yep.  History will look fondly upon goEMAW upon completion of the 2025 plan.

There really is two types of people in this world. Those who just want to get to the mountain top, and those who want to climb all every mountain on earth.   It's plain to see that Schulz is the latter
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

As we start the 147th school year for Kansas State University, I thought it would be interesting to imagine a conversation between the 13th President of Kansas State (myself) and the founding president of Kansas State (Joseph J. Denison) on where the university is today. Since he died in 1900, I will need to use a time machine to go back, pick him up, and bring him to 2010! So, lets power up the Flux Capacitor, hop into our DeLorean time machine, and go back to the founding of Kansas State.

After picking up President Denison in 1864 (I thought we should be in existence for at least a year), we are driving the DeLorean around campus — and I invite each of you to listen in on our conversation...

Holy eff, Schulz was Rusty's neighbor!  :surprised:
