Advice on d/l'ing music/tv shows (free and will not f up my comp related)

I would like to be able to d/l music and tv shows and not mess up my comp.  Would prefer to stream the TV (torrents?  do not want without some compelling reason) and would like some classy music blogs with mixtapes of infamous rhymers, soul/funk/motown (neo or classic), dub reggae, cool bands with white people that have beards (no emo) and some 80s punk. (Rusty I am looking at your stupid beard right now and sizing it up for a fist-punch)

Buy a netbook and don't worry about what torrents you download

torrentz won't hurt your computer.  Just dl them and stream them to your stereo/tv with:

I am also incredibly stupid in this area.  Torrents are downloads or streaming programs?  If they're downloads, why aren't they filled with bugs?  Does it matter which site I go to?  (Piratebay is safer or something?)

a torrent is just a small file that contains information on where pieces of the file you are trying to download are located amongst the internet.  One person starts out seeding the file in full, and other people start downloading those pieces of the file, and eventually you are just downloading from tons of people simultaneously, while uploading the same information simulteanously.

The only safe way to use torrents is through a VPN, which costs money.

Also, ISP's don't really care, unless they get a letter from the RIAA/MPAA.

Private torrent sites are much safer than public ones, but still not 100%
