Dream scenario: hire Bill Cowher or Jeff Fisher and then draft RG3.

They are the two most overrated coaches in the history of the game of football. Cowher moreso than Fisher.

While being the head coach at  Pittsburgh, Cowher was 149-90 with a 12-9 post season record in 10 playoff apprearances. He also won his division 8 times and won the Super Bowl once. I fail to see how he is overrated.

His successor has run laps around him

Yes. He's a solid coach, nothing more. People praise him like he's a legend.

Unless Fisher is the new coach I see no reason to pay attention to the Chefs until Pioli is gone.  And they get close to the cap.

Pretty sure the new CBA (or whatever) forces the teams to spend at least 90% of the salary cap so the Chiefs could well be major players in the off season.

Have to convince people to play in KC first.

Are there going to be enough quality free agents for the Chiefs to double their team salary on in one offseason, or is this going to force them to overpay a few free agents just to meet the minimum salary? It seems to me that they should have planned for this last offseason and started to close the gap. :dunno:

Think there was no salary cap last off season so they were probably smart to not get too involved.  And I think most players will just play where ever means the most money.  The NFL is a bit different than MLB in that less dudes are thinking rings and more dudes are thinking about cashing in on their short career span.

Fantasy GM right here... trade for Payton Manning, extend Dwayne Bowe and BOOM! salary cap spending!

How much under the salary floor are they?  And I'm not sure Peyton would fit the Chiefs MO, seems like he's still got numerous productive yrs left.

They are $40 million under the cap, and the floor is 90% of the cap iirc, so I would estimate that they will need to spend at least $30 million this offseason. That's before taking into consideration any contracts they would lose to trades/free agency after this season.

Like I've said before, the way the NFL is structured and with its lucrative TV deals . . . you almost have to try to be, or actually want to be inept for an extended period of time.    The league does everything it can to raise the tide of all boats, and yet organizations like the Chiefs regularly fall flat on their face.    Nothing of significance has been sustained over any length of time by this organization in nearly 2 decades, and they haven't drafted a legit franchise quarterback, well . . . ever.

I'm betting they get a QB this year. If they are smart they will go after RG3.

Kyle Orton appears to be considerably better than Matt Cassel.  Not really groundbreaking news here, but I thought I would share it anyway.
