My point, which wasn't well stated, is that you can get QB's in all sorts of rounds or ways.

Like, why Rich Gannon was never our starting QB for years baffles me.

That said, I loved the Murray pick in the 5th. I think he's got good upside.

I don't even know what we're debating about half the time. J-dub just really wants you to know that A. Smith sucks and the Chiefs are dumb for not knowing Wilson and Kaep were DITR.

Oh and Manziel is a stud no matter what he does.

You can count the number of sure thing draft picks on one freaking hand in the past two decades:

2012 - Andrew Luck
2011 - Cam Newton
2008 - Matt Ryan
2005 - Aaron Rodgers (this is the only arguable screw up)
1998 - Peyton Manning

Every single one of those guys had everything: size, arm, intelligence, absolute collegiate domination. They were the model NFL QB's. You could absolutely bank on them being an NFL success.

Beyond that, every single guy has had an element of risk. Every. Single. One.

For every one of those franchise QB's, and that includes Flacco, Rothlisberger, etc. that were drafted in the first round, I can give you three versions of Cade McNown's and Chad Pennington's.

I'm not absolving the Chiefs of having a horrible QB strategy the past, I don't know, 20 years, but there's no magic pixie dust saying drafting a QB in the first two rounds will work.

None of those guys have been sure things, either. Ryan Leaf was more highly touted than half of that list. The point is that you can't get an elite QB if you don't take that risk. Nobody ever lets them go, other than the Chargers.

pan, i get hating the "draft a qb zealots." i know i'm annoying. if the chiefs tried every now and then i'd shut up. but they are the lone single solitary team that doesn't ever try. and it makes us zealots go more and more insane. for now tho, the royals are in 1st place, september is almost upon us and i don't give an eff about the chiefs right now.

Every time between innings when I switch from the Royals to the Chiefs Alex Smith throws another interception. He is a bad QB.
