Will Denver go after Watson, now that their attempt to get Stafford is denied? Is Watson the type of guy who would deny that trade, or would get get all jazzed up about being in the same division as Patrick?

Scared and probability of playoff birth are two different things. I would not want to go to a conference where I had to play Herbert and Mahomes twice in the regular season. Competing in AFC West against Chiefs is playing for a wildcard spot every year (hello future San Diego). That is a lot of pressure for a QB and even more for a head coach.

i don't subscribe to the idea that an nfl qb is going to shy away from an otherwise winning bid for their service based upon the other qb's in his division because he's scared he won't go to the playoffs

If you want to win, you definitely take the rest of the teams in the division into account. That's not being scared, it's being smart.

I think if you want to win, you pick the best organization you can. The other teams won't matter.

That said, I don't think Denver has a good coach. They have a new GM so there's no track record of success for him yet. That's why Watson won't pick Denver. But he's said to be considering NYJ and that's a much worse organization than Denver.

Yeah I agree, if the best place to win is in the afc west then go for it, but having the chiefs in the division is one of the reasons that an afc west team won't be the best place to win.
