Damon Albarm is insanely good. Crazy he's not a household name, really.

Damon Albarm may just be england's best songwriter of the past 20 years.

I've been drooling over that bobby womack song for the past couple months. do you have the album? thoughts?

haven't gotten a chance to listen to it all the way through. (I've been to busy jerking it to FJM)

But it's on spotify: http://open.spotify.com/album/7tJ3tERlaIjX7ZjcsbHGcc

That's because Americans are stupid and only appreciate catchy songs/lyrics. 99.8% of the country has heard Gorillaz and Blur but I doubt anyone could remember anything other than "Oh you mean that WOOO HOOOOOO I'M HAPPY I'M FEELING GLAD song? I love that song!"

I'd argue Thom Yorke isn't a household name. He's obviously well known among younger crowds and among people that actually seek out music and threads on music like this one. But walk into a house in Emporia and ask the homeowner? Doubtful.

compared to albarn, Yorke is far, far, far more popular. that is my point. "household name" was not intended to mean "household name" in that every household in Kansas knows him. Just means most people who follow music somewhat closely know him.

Most music followers have heard of Thom Yorke, most couldn't name Albarn or even know the guy from Blur was also behind Gorillaz. I mean when I first saw Albarn played a part in reviving Bobby Womack's career, I had to google him. It's just weird to me that he's stayed so relatively anonymous.

I think it is mostly because of the anonymous nature of Gorillaz.  I think more people could name a character from the Gorillaz "band" than could name Damon Albarn.  Blur was practically only known in the States for Song 2.  Also, The Demon Days Live DVD is incredible...

also if Youth Lagoon and not FJM goes last LMAO @ poor Youth Lagoon.

also, solely based on the website for the event, I think he may.

http://www.theslowdown.com/events/youth-lagoon/

I hope he talks mad crap on Youth Lagoon (and I like Youth Lagoon) for entertainment value. Hopefully he makes fun of Omaha, too (he made fun of SF when I saw him). have fun at this event. It should be fun.

looks like it's a solo set. too bad.

I'm pretty positive this twin shadow album is going to get at least a 9 on the pitchfork richter scale. Aside from his excessive use of the words "heart," "love", and "cry" the album is like a top gun soundtrack made a baby with morrisey.

Some seriously funky and jammy tunes. Never thought I'd hear a Neil Young cover like that.

Don't know if this goes here or in the "yes please" thread, but my cabbie yesterday was jamming to an Arabic remix of "numa numa".
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Romanian. It still had the same language, but the music was all ouds (arabic guitar), tambourines, and drums. Lots of drums. There may have been some flute. It was hard to tell. It all happened so fast.

I would not know what Youth Lagoon looked like.

I will go to TIMF if I can get in for free.

It's hard to have a good summer song because summer is identical to every other season here. but goddam that Theophilus London I mentioned earlier is the crap:

Another one that's just a little offbeat: http://fabulousarabia.bandcamp.com/track/perm

and another that's older but was new to me this spring/summer:

I actually just saw poolside on http://buzzbands.la/ (which is probably my favorite site for new music because LA is the best). I enjoy Poolside quite a bit.

expanding on my loving LA music - if I had to whittle my new music sources down, the last ones I gave up would be:

Aquarium Drunkard (LA)
Buzzbands LA (LA)
Passion of the Weiss (LA)
Soul Sides (LA)
Armed Snobbery (Seattle)

there's probably someone I forgot but those pretty much cover most of my bases.

I just listen to siriusxmu and read this thread.  I'm like people who get all their insider airline mile info from our credit card thread instead of wading through flyertalk or travel blogs.
