I've decided that Fun is a modern day O.A.R.

I think they are more musically talented than O.A.R. Nothing they are doing is groundbreaking, but they have a pretty unique sound, IMO, unlike O.A.R.

Admittedly, I haven't heard much of them because I'm not really into college party music.

Is that what you think when you hear .Fun? I don't really hear that.

Yes, very similar vibes to O.A.R. I would guess the crowd at a fun concert would look very similar to an O.A.R. concert 10 years ago. But a lot of that is just demographics* and not necessarily musical styles.

*NOTE: this is very unscientific research.

Eh, you may be right as far as the crowd, but OAR is definitely more "Jam Bandy" than Fun.

FWIW, I went through a pretty huge OAR phase from 7th grade to 11th grade.  I'm embarrassed by how many OAR concerts I've been to.

their albums sound similar to me. Of course, jam-bandy doesn't translate well to albums. I don't mean to hurt your feelings d-lew. Nothing wrong with being the modern day o.a.r.

They're not hurt.  Right or wrong, I'll always have a soft spot for oar.

But I really don't see the similarity.  Aim and Ignite (Fun's first album) is backed by an orchestra and very heavy with strings (aside from acoustic guitars).  Some Nights, the second one, is electronic heavy.  OAR hasn't really ever done either of those things.  OAR is basically a few guitars, a sax, and the singer who sings the same song for 3 and a half minutes, and basically starts free-style rapping.

I could see o.a.r doing the entire newest fun album minus the minimal electronic elements.

I respectfully disagree, but that's okay!

I'm not usually a fan of RnB type stuff, but The Weeknd's "House of Balloons" album is absolutely phenomenal.

You can download it legally (and his other albums) here directly from the artist: http://the-weeknd.com/#

Just about every track gives me goosebumps and has this ambient, ethereal feel. Whomever wrote the songs did a great job.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned. Here's a preview:

Hint: this is good sex music.

Weeknd has gotten a lot of hype but I just don't have the patience, I guess.

so in turntable last night I remembered that Sir Mixalot did a Wichita version of "Jump On It" where he goes "Derby! Jump on it! Jump on it! Jump on it!" among the many great moments of the tune. I can't find anything about it on the internets, so I emailed Greg "the Hitman" Williams at Power 93.9. He said, "sorry, that track is long gone."

:frown:

Going to try to email Mix's management, but his website is blocked at work. :frown:

J Roddy Walston and the Business. These are guys who have beards and like to jam, but probably not what you are looking for.
