Is this the thread to discuss air vibrations that our brains translate into pleasing feelings?

I need some new music.  I'm not sure of the acumen of this board, but I'll willing to hazard a request for some recommendos.  I don't really keep up with all the up-and-coming artists, and when you adopt this habit for a prolonged period of time, you end up not knowing about some "older" artists whose careers may have already peeked.  I'm not old, it's just that when I was young I listened mostly to music that was old and never really worked my way up to the present.  So all you music muses, make me Shepard's Pie from these bits:

-The catchy popiness of the Beatles
-The poetry and world-influences of Paul Simon
-The story-telling and diverse instrumentation of Billy Joel

So far, the only modern band I have found that has these characteristics is Vampire Weekend. If you don't like Vampire Weekend, don't reply.  I can't find anyone else like Vampire Weekend, and I find the task of sifting through all the groups broad-brushed with "alternative" or "indie" to be rough ridin' miserable.  I just want happy, upbeat music that gives me something to think about and isn't predictable - is such a thing even possible?

I earnestly enjoy it, but I don't think it checks any of your boxes, except the unpredictable one.

No, some of them don't make it to Spotify. Especially the hip hop.

Unrelated follow-up, am I an idiot for not going to see Bad Suns at the Czar Bar last night because I was too tired?

OK, I listened to them, you should be more disappointed in missing the KC shows I told you to go to earlier in this thread but you probably didn't.

i would try Miniature Tigers, The Strokes, maybe Noah and the Whale, maybe the Shins. i'm sure there's at least a few songs you'd like in that group
