Better or Worse than last year?
« on: July 02, 2010, 05:21:42 PM »
I think we are better, by far. Scary better. Big XII Champ better. FF better. National Champ better!

PG: Pullen is the biggest question mark but he shouldn't be. Our offense slowed with Clemente out but I don't know if that was because of Pullen or because Pullen didn't have many offensive options to pass to? He's a much more consistent scorer. Very good passer. Dramatic improvement defensively.

SG: McGruder, I think he will be better than Pullen at SG when it's all said and done. He's got more of a rounded game. Much bigger player. Sweet stroke and a very good rebounder from the 2 position

SF: Samuels. Personally, I think it's an upgrade. Samuels is better offensively than Sutton could ever dream about. He's a good rebounder, maybe not AS good...but then again, he's going to be a junior. Defensively, It's a downgrade but Sutton was living off defensive hype these last 2 years IMO. Samuals will be better because he's been playing out of position at PF and much more suited for SF.

PF: Kelly. He played amazing at times and was out of position last year. He will flat out dominate at PF. I can't WAIT to see him unleashed.

C: Asprilla. Even if he's not cracked up to be 1 and done after his transfer here (HAHAHA) he will still be a HUGE upgrade. Even if adds just a tiny bit of offense it will be an upgrade.

Bench
Russell- I don't that he didn't get a chance last year. He's got potential to be special for us. Look for big things this year from the bench. THANK GOD he's not the one that's transferring....IMO
Myles- Who knows...I remember blake young too much to get excited. But who knows
Spradling- Serviceable backup or red shirt possibility?
Southwell- I'm cautiously excited about this guy...he is a frosh.
Judge- Can't wait to see his improvement. He's going to be a monster off the bench. Wonder if he could split time backing up SF ( a very tall and long SF) as well since that's where our depth is hurt by Sutton
JHR- Showed promise...I'm a big JHR. Hopefully he can add weight.

Nino Williams possiblity still alive???
Lawrence Grey Shirt possibility?

We will now have the luxury of 5 players (-Colon, -Sutton) on the court able to create their own shot

Myles- Who knows...I remember blake young too much to get excited. But who knows

what do you have against blake young?

and why are you comparing a shoot-first combo guard from florida with a pass-first true point guard canadian?

Not their talent specialties I'm comparing but their juco hype that I'm comparing. And I'm sorry...I was not a fan of Blake Young or his ugly ass shot.

Then who will back up SF? Unless Nino Williams comes we will have NO one other than Samuels at SF. McGruder could slide to the 3 spot but he'd be undersized.

With little improvement from so to jr, not surprised with the fredB decision...9o grids & js are better options at the 3 on O + D.

Nino or Omari.

everything i've heard says southwell, like samuels, will need a year in the weight room before frank is comfortable playing him.

Omari? Ummm...dude is a transfer. 1) He's not even been offered a scholorship (might be waiting on Nino) and 2) He's a a SG or a small SF 3) He's REQUIRED BY NCAA to sit out b/c of transfer rules. Just because they got a new coach doesn't give him a free pass to play right away. This has been discussed. Unless there is pretty much a death in the family or a school being banned (USC) then the student WILL be required to sit out.

i realize this. i'm talking about who will probably be backing samuels up the next couple years. if you're just talking this coming year, nino would be great if he comes, but if not we should be ok will all the guard combo's we can do. plus, we'll prob go small a lot anyways with 3 quick guards and some combo of kelly/judge/asprilla controlling the paint.

We're better now that Dom is gone, because people who were already on the team and sharing his minutes are going to take his place?

Uh, Okay.

Dom was a great athlete and our bench just shorter.  Spare me the praise for the incoming kids..they're not going to contribute as much as Dom would have this year.  Hopefully Nino ends up coming in this year instead of next.

I'd be thrilled with another elite 8 season.

For me . . . I think this year offers an excellent opportunity for Frank to perfect his no movement offense.

it's a legit concern though. i've got to assume the coaches think they've got nino, in which case i think we're better off than we were. if not, it's pretty disappointing

7.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 TO, 1.2 STL, .2 BLK, 3.0 PFs, .477 FG%, .590 FT% and .333 3P% can't be replaced by Samuels at the 3? He was going to get replaced regardless and come in off the bench. You're completely OVERVALUING Sutton.

And the only newcomer that I was gushing about was Asprilla...and that's only because you've really got to try to not find an upgrade of Colon.

Omari would only be able to back up jamssamIam for one year.

No kidding.  Can we please stop the, "we will be better that we lost our point guard/emotional leader and our "X factor/defensive specialist, and the fact that they were both full year starters with tons of big game experience"?  I don't give a krap who we bring in to replace Dom, you can't replace his experience.  Oh and one more thing.  If I see a post that says we are better because Jam and Wally will get to play more, I am going to computer punch someone.  That is the most Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) thing I have ever heard.  Wouldn't it be better to have them all?  :dunno:  :comehere:

Who to trust on outcome of season:

Couch potato :jerk: vs. Division I coach :kstatriot:.

Good teams move on.  Look at all the pre-season top 10 teams for next year.  Almost all of them have lost pretty good players.  Unbelievable.  Anymore if one of our players sprains his toe some of you think the sky is falling.  If you can take the downs with the ups go put on a skirt nancy.
