There's got to be a book of coaching inspirational quotes somewhere.  Left to his own devices, "it's all in the wrist" is about as profound a statement Massa Seff could come up with on his own.

It's been posted by many, including myself, that we have been incredibly fortunate to witness this sustained period of success for the program. There are huge red flags everywhere that KU's Golden Age is being killed off by the transfer portal and NIL. We would be foolish to ignore the signs.
And I don't want to hear about the '22 title. This sport is not built around 2-3 year program players anymore. It's one-and-done freshman and transfers - all making more money than 90% of the fans in the arena. '22 was a literal lifetime ago. Adapt or become Indiana or UCLA. UNC seems to be suffering the same fate. Very, very sad./quote]

I feel bad for KU fans. It would be awful to expect title hunts every year and all else is failure. Life mostly full of disappointment and failure.

It's quite amazing. But it's also almost like any big program's sustained success over time was created by cheating. Funny how that is (Nebraska).

Most other programs were giving guys minor extras . . .a few like KU and Self/Townsend were out there using a mega corp to buy players. Now everyone can buy players, and KU cannot sustain its past success.

As an aside. Listening to Coach K talk about how serendipitous it was that Zion Williamson ended up at Duke, feigning complete shock . . .is one of the most disingenuous things I've ever witnessed in college athletics.  It surpasses Roy running around constantly talking about how UNC/KU did it the "right way".

That said, I still think KU is very capable of having a strong NCAA tourney.

Strong is the sense they'll stink up the place? They look like a middling seed who won't get their usual Day 1 small conference tourney winner 16th seed. The committee with its sense of humor may slot them for a second-round matchup against Missouri.

I think it's more nuanced than they lost their advantage via payment to recruits. Self has always been good at developing players for 2-3 years through sometimes unsavory tactics. The free transfer really hurt Bill imo more than other programs having ability to pay players above board. Either way I think this is his last year.

Could this be the week they finally gets them unranked? How long have they been there?

"And I don't want to hear about a national title from 3 years ago" is such a wild take.

How long should they allow him to turn the program stale before it's not "wild"

Down 20 at half to the Mormons.

I am astounded they are still ranked.  8-6 in conf and #23 in nation. They have the softest landing when they fall. They are going to lose by 25 and fall down to number 25.

Currently 0-3 on the road vs unranked teams, according to half time crew.

I'm not sure if KU getting their ass kicked makes me feel better or worse about our performance against BYU?  I mean we weren't this bad but lord..  Self hasn't shown a lick of emotion either, none.  Makes me sad we won't see him get a red-faced T ever again.

Will we be lucky enough to draw them in the tourney?
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Incredible half time adjustments by Self.  Called a time-out after this little 8-0 stretch and sat down and let his assistants do the talking.  It's now 64-33  and I think I just saw the scrolling. But hey, they only paid 10 million for this team so a come back isn't out of the question..

Worst KU team since late Ted Owens of 40-plus years ago.

KU's fall hurts us as well.  Many less-informed fans likely think the Cats just got blown out by the Mormons.
