From 1994 to 1999, Kansas State went 54-0 in the regular season against teams not named Colorado and Nebraska. Meanwhile, they went 4-8 against those two teams. In other words, living in a world without either the Buffaloes or the Huskers, the Wildcats would have run rampant across this conference. They would have absolutely DESTROYED this conference in the early years before Texas and Oklahoma got their footing (and even then, they'd still dominate quite a bit). We are left to wonder if recruiting would have gone to a bit of a higher level at this time, leading to a less severe drop-off after the 2003 season, but we won't explore that one too much -- we're only looking at the on-field what-ifs instead of the "in the recruits' homes" what-ifs, if that makes any sense.

Part two

After a year in the shadows, K-State reasserts itself in a major way.  They lose to Texas, but a four-point win over OU, combined with Texas' upset loss to Texas Tech, gives them their fourth conference title in the New Big 12's seven years.  Snyder is appropriately worshiped in Manhattan because he brought a conference title to KSU ... so what if he had brought in four titles and three national title game(ish) appearances?  Yikes.  They'd have not only named the stadium after him ... they'd have named the town after him.

Also, we were so fixated on beating NU in those years (96 - 98 especially) it was super easy to think "I will just stay out at the tailgate and just drink, we are already up 3 TD on KU or MU or OSU or whoever".  A couple of those years were damn near 1 or 2 games seasons (NU and CU).

It was pretty difficult to appreciate it when it was, basically, all I knew as a ksu fan.  I mean, in '00 when we lost to A&M in college station, for our SECOND loss of the season, I was almost inconsolable.

I listened to KSU games on the radio (AM) as a kid in the 80's, it was painful.  I was at KSU from 94-98, wow some of the greatest KSU football years of my life right in front of my eyes.  Had tickets all but 1 year (walked onto the track team and went to games free).

I was still a little kid for some of the 90s. I had grown up on K-State being great at football and was shocked when I was 10 or so and found out we were historically the worst team in football.

Yeah I graduated in December of 98.  Was one of the first people on the field then off again than back on then off, then finally stormed the field and gave Ryan Young a big hug.  Loved that guy!
